Chapter 2

2.

Seeing me barge in, Chloe Sinclair didn't let go of Kyan's hand. Instead, she pressed against his chest and shot me a provocative smile.

Kyan, on the other hand, instinctively tried to pull away from her.

"Why are you back so late?"

I let out a bitter laugh. He was the one who dumped me at the clerk's office, and now he was questioning me?

I took a deep breath. "Miss Sinclair, is it fun stealing someone else's boyfriend? Does it feel good to be a homewrecker?"

Her face dropped instantly. "Kyan..."

I could see a glaring scar on her arm.

She was an absolute psycho.

Hearing my words, Kyan flared up immediately.

"Zara Preston, why do you have to speak so viciously? Apologize!"

"Chloe is like a little sister to me. She was upset, so what if I hugged her? If you're sick, go take your meds! Stop acting crazy here!"

My chest ached, and I clutched it, frowning deeply.

His voice was cold. "Enough. Stop faking it, okay? Zara, you always play the heart condition card, it's so fake!"

His look of absolute disgust overlapped with the memory of him when he first courted me.

Seven years ago, I lost my family. The heartbreak was so suffocating that I almost faded away completely.

Kyan happened to pass by and saved me.

Later, we bumped into each other at an art gallery. He admired my work and started pursuing me.

He had said, "There is so much emotion in your paintings. I understand you. You won't be alone anymore, let me protect you, okay?"

Back then, I thought I had met my soulmate. I only wanted to paint and stay by his side forever.

But later on, he never visited my exhibitions again, claiming, "I don't have the time, I'm too busy."

His love for me was real back then, and his love for someone else was real now.

"Kyan." I cut him off right on time. "Kyan, why does she have a ring too?"

His lips moved, looking a bit guilty. "She said she liked the design, so I ordered one for her too. It's just a ring."

Chloe tilted her head. "Kyan, why don't you just tell her the truth? Are you afraid her heart will give out and she'll drop dead?"

"Zara Preston, aren't you just trying to trap Kyan with your illness? I've seen plenty of bitches like you!"

Kyan stayed silent, seemingly agreeing with her assumption.

My heart hurt so much I could barely breathe, but suddenly I felt like laughing.

"Kyan, is that what you think too?"

He was speechless.

I spoke calmly. "Let's break up."

I pulled the ring off and threw it at his feet.

He stared at me in shock. "What do you mean? Break up? Zara, you would let me go that easily?"

"Kyan, I am not joking with you."

He looked completely dismissive. "Zara, remember this well. You are the one who can't live without me, not the other way around."

"Don't come crying and begging me later, saying I'm the only person you have left."

Without any reaction, I went upstairs to pack my things, pushed the door open, and left without looking back.

Kyan actually tried to chase after me.

"Zara, are you being serious?"

He grabbed me. "You're just breaking up with me like this? This isn't your style. What sick twisted game are you playing now?"

The first time I brought up breaking up was Chloe's first day at his company. She got drunk, fell into his arms, and kissed his cheek.

Everyone in the office was cheering them on.

I happened to be there to drop off some design drafts and saw everything.

I asked him why he didn't push her away.

He just said, "She was drunk, that kiss meant nothing."

His attitude hurt me deeply. Terrified that he didn't love me anymore, I begged him not to leave me.

He was truly all I had left.

But now, he was using those very words to tear me down.

I pressed my lips together tightly. "Kyan, is that really the kind of person you think I am?"

I shook his hand off. "We are completely done."

A sharp pain shot through my chest, and my face turned pale.

He quickly stepped towards me. "You look awful..."

But right then, Chloe clutched her stomach. "Kyan, it hurts so bad..."

I paused for a few seconds, then walked away without turning my head.

Tears fell from my eyes like broken strings of pearls, dropping one by one.

I figured this was how everything should end.
