Chapter 2 1-caught in his darkness

Author's pov

An unforeseen event transpired that irrevocably damaged the relationship between Prisha and Salvatore, leaving Prisha's heart in ruins and breaking Salvatore's spirit. The very truth he had dreaded most was finally brought to light. Did he intend to hide the truth indefinitely? No, his intention was merely to clarify matters and help her comprehend the situation.

However, as the adage states, "no relationship endures if it is founded on deception," and this was precisely the outcome here. Is their relationship irreparably fractured? The future remains uncertain, but the current circumstances are excruciating for both parties involved.

Prisha gazed at him with tear-filled eyes, her lips quivering and her body trembling. The man before her was no longer the one she had loved, the one with whom she had shared cherished moments. Instead, she faced the formidable Salvatore, the mafia boss, clad in a bloodstained shirt, the evidence of his recent brutality evident.

Blood was splattered across his face, and he showed no inclination to clean it. He had never anticipated that she would witness him in such a state. Behind him stood two guards, weapons drawn, their intimidating presence only heightened her fear.

Salvatore's gaze fell upon her, noticing her bleeding knees as she sat on the dusty floor. He approached her, but as he took a step forward, she instinctively crawled backward. He halted, pained by her retreat, and the sight of her injured knees affected him more deeply than her own suffering. In a moment of desperation, he drew his gun and shot the legs of both guards, the gunfire reverberating through the room.

Blood splattered onto her face as she screamed in terror, "No... no... don't kill me!" Both guards collapsed, clutching their wounded legs in agony.

Four additional guards escorted them to the infirmary. "No... no... no," she repeated incessantly, rocking back and forth in distress. He stood there, observing her, seemingly unfazed by the chaos he had just unleashed, maintaining an unsettling calm as if nothing had occurred.

He stayed away from her, unsure of how to provide comfort or explain the circumstances. One thought nagged at him: how on earth did she find out about this place? But looking at her, it was clear she wasn't in a position to answer his questions.

Meanwhile, Michael and Daniel were speeding towards the location Prisha had sent. After twenty minutes, Michael finally checked her brief message and felt puzzled by her words.

He noticed she had included the location, and before calling her, he decided to look it up to see if he could send help if he was running late. When he opened the link, he was stunned to discover it led to their torture basement. He quickly texted Salvatore to alert him about her presence there, but received no response. So, he instructed one of Salvatore's bodyguards to relay the message.

He then called Daniel to update him on the situation and urged him to hurry. They dashed to the elevator, reached the parking lot, and jumped into the car. Michael sped off towards the building, ignoring traffic laws, while Daniel attempted to reach Salvatore but got no reply. Little did they realize the true horror unfolding at that location.

Unbeknownst to them, Salvatore had become her worst nightmare. He sat on the floor, head bowed, left hand resting on his knee, one leg bent, and a gun gripped tightly in his right hand, feeling utterly lost and unsure of how to navigate this dire situation.

As they approached, both individuals heard the sound of running footsteps. Prisha glanced at the newcomers, while Salvatore, recognizing who had arrived in the basement, chose not to lift his gaze, remaining seated and contemplating his current predicament.

He felt fear for the second time in his life, the first being related to his family. Prisha turned her attention to Michael, who noticed her distress.

"Are you alright, angel?" he inquired with concern.

"Michael, Daniel," she exclaimed, and then rushed to embrace both of them. However, her inner voice began to echo warnings: 'They are brothers, and they too bear the blood of innocent victims; they are no different from him; they are murderers, remember they run a mafia, do not be deceived by their facade.'

Fueled by adrenaline, she suddenly pushed them away with force and sprinted off like Usain Bolt or P.T. Usha, leaving Michael and Daniel astonished by her strength.

"Go after her and bring her back," Salvatore commanded the twins.

"But let her calm down first," Daniel attempted to reason.

"Just do as I say," Salvatore replied curtly, still keeping his head down.

"Yes, boss," they responded, and immediately pursued her.

Prisha was anxiously waiting for the elevator doors to open when they spotted her.

"Angel, don’t run! Come with us; we mean you no harm," Michael urged in an attempt to soothe her. However, upon hearing their voices, her fear intensified, and she began frantically pressing the elevator button, desperate to escape.

"No, I'm not going anywhere!" she cried out. When the elevator doors finally opened, she felt a surge of relief, believing her chance for escape had arrived.

Just as she was about to enter the elevator, Michael seized her from behind with a firm grip. "Let me go, let me go," she pleaded, struggling against him.

"Do not complicate matters for us, angel. We must go; I will not allow anyone to harm you," Michael implored.

She shook her head vigorously, her throat parched from running, crying, and fear, making it increasingly difficult for her to articulate any words. They forcibly brought her to Salvatore.

Salvatore rose from the floor, wiping his face with his sleeve while still clutching a gun in his hand. The two of them pulled her inside once more, feeling sympathy for her plight but unable to defy their capo's orders.

"No... pl... please let me go," she sobbed, clasping her hands together in front of him. He approached Prisha slowly; she, who had been acting like a frantic individual, suddenly fell silent. As he advanced, her heartbeat quickened, and her breath became shallow; she was so terrified that she averted her gaze. "Take it easy, Sal," Daniel cautioned.

He drew closer to her, and it was only due to the tight hold of both men that she remained upright; otherwise, she would have collapsed to the floor. Her legs trembled with fear, and his breath brushed against her face.

"Breathe," he instructed, prompting her to exhale the breath she had been unknowingly holding. In the next moment, black spots clouded her vision, and her body went limp, causing her to faint against Salvatore's chest.

He held her securely in his arms, and after ensuring her safety, he carried her into his building, where the events had unfolded. He laid her on the bed in his private penthouse located on the top floor.
