Chapter 3
3
Watching the two of them walk away, I reconsidered what I told Mark earlier.
It's not just his wife who's with him on their anniversary.
It could also be a young, beautiful assistant.
I watched the rest of the show myself.
When I got back to the hotel, I changed my flight, took a shower, and went to bed.
Mark didn't come back that night.
It wasn't until I was about to board my flight that he called.
I didn't pick up. I just turned off my phone.
When I landed, I had over a dozen messages from Mark.
He demanded to know why I'd left without saying anything.
But he didn't say a word about why he was out all night.
I didn't reply.
When I got home, I drew up divorce papers right away.
But I knew, this probably wouldn't be easy.
Mark and I had been together for seven years before we got married.
During those seven years, I shared cheap food and slept in cheap motels with him.
To buy him a decent suit, I ate ramen for a month straight.
I was even almost assaulted by my boss at a part-time job.
Because of these experiences, Mark was always kind to junior employees.
But luckily, it was all worth it.
When new media exploded, we rode the wave.
Within a year, we had accumulated millions in assets.
The day our company was officially founded, Mark proposed with a diamond ring.
He said he'd love me forever.
To show his sincerity, even though I decided to step back from managing the business, he transferred most of the company's shares to me as prenuptial property.
When did I first notice that things were off?
It was about two weeks ago.
A long-time employee told me Mark had hired a new assistant.
Two months prior.
Apparently, she was fair-skinned, beautiful, and a real go-getter.
I felt uncomfortable. When Mark came home, I asked why he didn't tell me.
He was a little drunk that night, and he loosened his tie and frowned at me.
"Why do I need to report that I hired a new assistant? She's clumsy and timid. Always crying."
"If not for Chris pushing her to work at my company, I wouldn't have hired an assistant like her."
Mark always chose his words carefully.
His uncharacteristic agitation made me uneasy.
I hung up his clothes and asked softly.
"So, Chris has a special relationship with your assistant?"
Mark snatched the towel out of my hand, suddenly becoming angry.
"Sarah, why are you acting like those gossiping housewives? All you think about is stupid rumors!"
He looked at me with disgust, then stormed into the bathroom and slammed the door.
I was stunned.
Instinct told me that our marriage…
Might be over.
That's everything available right now.
