Chapter 2
2.
Three days ago.
Stellan fainted without warning while practicing his dance steps at home.
I hurriedly called our family doctor, Jojo Sinclair.
But she told me to take him to the hospital.
After a series of tests, Stellan was diagnosed with a terminal disease.
Hearing the news, my whole world collapsed.
He was only six years old.
His life hadn't even truly begun yet.
How could he have such a fatal illness?
Besides the unbearable pain, my heart was filled with deep regret.
I regretted not taking better care of Stellan.
Looking at his weak body lying on the hospital bed, my heart ached like it was being sliced open.
After he woke up, he cried and told me that only the System could save him.
"Mom, the System said I can only live if Aunt Jojo marries Dad."
My face instantly stiffened.
Jojo stood beside the bed, adjusting her glasses with a gentle voice.
"That is not true! Stellan's dad will never divorce his mom!"
Usually, my son was terrified of doctors in white coats and even more scared of needles.
But ever since he met Jojo, he wasn't afraid at all.
He even faked illnesses just to see her every day.
I really couldn't understand what was so great about Jojo.
Besides being a bit pretty, she seemed completely ordinary.
"Mom..."
Stellan looked at me miserably.
"Mom, do you really have the heart to watch me pass away like this?"
I quickly interrupted him and coaxed him.
"Don't talk about passing away. Mom is here, and you will be fine!"
But he cried even harder.
He even acted like a spoiled, unreasonable brat.
"I don't want you, Mom..."
"The System said I will only get better if Aunt Jojo marries Dad..."
"You won't agree! You are a bad mom!"
He cried until he was out of breath.
In the end, it was Jojo who calmed him down.
"Stellan is the most sensible boy."
"You can't talk to your mom like that anymore, got it?"
Stellan pouted and glared at me.
It was obvious he wanted nothing to do with me.
I felt helpless.
But deep down, I took his words seriously.
This world is fictional.
It has a System and targeting missions.
Back when I was struggling on the brink of death from a terminal illness, the System chose me.
It told me that if I successfully won Jace's heart, I could return to the real world completely healthy.
But if I failed, the System would wipe me out, and I would vanish entirely.
Now that my son was in the exact same situation, I was genuinely terrified for him!
Later, I rushed to Jace's company with Stellan's recent medical test results.
But instead, I heard them talking about faking the illness.
And it was all just so he could be with Jojo.
Just as I was about to leave in despair, Jojo arrived.
I hid in the corner and quietly watched their intimate show.
"What took you so long? Is everything done?"
Jace wrapped his arm around Jojo's waist and chuckled, "All set."
"The medical reports were prepared in advance! But... does this make me look like a bad person..."
Jace sneered.
"Why be so serious with Cora? She is boring and totally devoid of passion!"
Their laughter grew louder.
I took out my phone and emotionlessly called Jace.
He hung up right away.
I called him again.
He kept hanging up.
I repeated this several times.
Finally, he impatiently sent me a text saying he was in a meeting.
I did not reply.
Nor did I walk in to expose his lies.
Because I was so disgusted that I was on the verge of throwing up.
