Chapter 3

3.

I stumbled back to bed and let the darkness swallow me.

A thought struck me. I opened Hank's Instagram profile.

I rarely checked social media. My life was usually too busy for it.

The photos I saw felt like they were laughing at my stupidity.

Thirty minutes ago, he had posted a story: "Missing my little wildcat. Going to see her now."

The picture showed a slender wrist tied with a red string.

Those pink nails... they were exactly the ones Yara had done today!

The comments underneath were even more disgusting.

"Seeing the sister-in-law again? Better hurry, she's getting married soon!"

"She's so hot. Let's all hang out in a few days!"

Almost all our mutual friends were joking about it.

The tone was suggestive. It seemed like everyone knew about Yara and Hank except for me.

I was the only fool kept in the dark, soaking in the joy of an upcoming wedding.

I kept scrolling. They had gone to movies together, had dinner, traveled...

The days I was absent were all filled by Hank.

If Hank liked Yara all along, why didn't he tell me?

He was the one who encouraged me to chase her in the first place.

I gripped my head in pain, tears streaming down my face.

I lay there like a corpse until the morning light hit the floor.

Yara walked in with a sweet smile on her face.

When she saw my eyes fixed on the ceiling, her smile vanished.

"Quinn, you're awake? Did you hear something?"

She tried to stay calm, her eyes searching my face for clues.

I remained expressionless. "Nothing. Just woke up."

"Me too. I just went out for a glass of water," she said quickly, clearly trying to cover her tracks.

"You must be hungry. I'll go make breakfast."

Without waiting for a reply, she bolted out of the room.

I watched her frantic exit, a cold smirk forming on my lips.

How interesting. I wondered what her face would look like when she found out I was marrying her sister tomorrow.
