Chapter 2
Chapter 2
After being discharged from the hospital, the first thing I did at home was reprint the divorce agreement.
My mother-in-law told me that when Wesley first saw the papers, he ripped them to shreds without reading a single word.
So this time, I printed ten copies, letting him tear them up to his heart's content.
Midnight arrived, but Wesley was still nowhere to be found.
Just as I gave up waiting and turned my wheelchair toward the bedroom, the front door clicked open.
Wesley walked in, bringing Kendra along with him.
He was surprised to see me still awake, but the moment his eyes landed on the papers in my lap, his face darkened.
"You stayed up waiting just to shove this trash in my face?"
I nodded and held the contract out to him, my voice flat.
"Sign it. It's better for both of us."
"Keep dreaming!" Wesley snapped. "You're throwing this huge fit just because I gave the promotion to Kendra? Is it really worth making a scene over such a trivial thing?"
Even now, Wesley still believed everything he had done to me was just a petty issue.
I was tired of arguing.
Over our ten-year marriage, we had fought hundreds of times over Kendra, and every single fight ended with my surrender.
This time, however, my resolve was unbreakable.
I kept holding the papers toward him, refusing to lower my arms until he took them.
During our standoff, Kendra, who had been watching silently from the side, suddenly put on a pitiful, tearful face.
"Wesley, it's all my fault," she whimpered. "If it weren't for me, Laurel wouldn't be this angry, and you two wouldn't be fighting."
Wesley could never stand seeing Kendra cry.
He immediately turned around and comforted her in a gentle tone, "How could this be your fault? Laurel is just being completely unreasonable. Don't lower yourself to her level."
Kendra blinked back tears, looking between Wesley and me.
"Can you please stop arguing? I feel so guilty."
Wesley sighed reluctantly, "You're just too kind-hearted, Kendra. That's why people like Laurel walk all over you."
It was hilarious how Wesley was completely wrapped around Kendra's finger, yet worried that other people were manipulating her.
Kendra instantly wiped her tears and smiled sweetly at Wesley.
"How about I take the papers and tear them up for you? That way, you two won't fight anymore."
With that, she walked straight toward my wheelchair.
The moment our hands brushed, I caught the sly glint in her eyes.
In the next second, Kendra grabbed my hand and shoved it hard against her own chest.
As she threw herself backward, her head slammed violently against the wooden coffee table.
She really went all out just to frame me.
