Chapter 3
3
Last month, I brought up registering our marriage.
Kelsey happily agreed, but instead of the county courthouse, she drove us to a private document agency.
She claimed it was run by a close friend and that we should support their business.
She also swore they were directly linked to the county system and that the paperwork was identical.
I trusted her blindly and signed the papers.
Looking back now, she had already legally married Damian by then.
They had probably even held a private ceremony.
Why? Why did she keep stringing me along?
Did she want to make a fool out of me, or was she just unwilling to let go of my devotion?
I walked home in a total daze.
The moment I unlocked the front door, I spotted a pair of men's dress shoes by the entryway.
Worse, a trail of discarded underwear was scattered across the hardwood floor.
My vision blurred as faint sounds drifted from our master bedroom.
I crept down the hallway, every step heavier than the last.
Disgusting, explicit moans leaked through the door.
"How does that feel, baby? Am I way better than him?"
It was Damian's voice; there was no mistaking it.
We used to be best friends like brothers!
Yet here he was, in our marital home, rolling around in my bed with my fiancée.
Kelsey gasped between heavy breaths, crying out loudly.
"Yes, baby! Harder! You're amazing!"
A sharp, blinding pain shot through my skull, urging me to kick the door down.
Yet my lingering sanity held me back.
Inside, Damian mentioned my name.
"Caleb won't come back right now, will he? What if he catches us?"
Kelsey replied with an annoyed scoff. "Why bring him up right now?"
"His company keeps him swamped, so he never comes home at this hour."
Damian chuckled smugly.
"True. Besides, why should I care? We're the ones with a real marriage license."
"Legally speaking, we're husband and wife, while he's just a fake."
"If anything, Caleb is the side piece here, right babe?"
Kelsey fell silent for a few seconds.
"Damian, I can't leave Caleb. He'd lose his mind without me."
"That's why I have to marry him too. He literally cannot live without me."
...
I didn't want to hear another word.
How could a human being say something so sick?
She went behind my back to marry another man, slept with him in my bed, and had the nerve to claim I couldn't live without her.
In all my years, I had never encountered someone so shamelessly delusional.
I quietly closed the front door and walked out of the house that was supposed to be our future.
Maybe there was a better way to handle this.
I pulled out my phone and dialed my future mother-in-law.
"Mom! Please go check on Kelsey at our place. She told me earlier she wasn't feeling well."
"I'm stuck in critical meetings at the office and can't get away right now."
"Also, there's some creepy guy who has been harassing her lately, so please be careful."
"Yes, bring her cousins along just in case! Don't let her get hurt!"
Half an hour later, I pulled up our home security live feed on my phone.
I had given my mother-in-law the door passcode.
They walked straight inside without any trouble.
When they stepped through the foyer, they immediately saw the clothes strewn all over the floor.
Kelsey's four male cousins lost their tempers instantly.
They kicked the bedroom door wide open.
Seeing another man in bed instead of me, the cousins dragged Damian out onto the floor.
They beat the living hell out of him with fists and kicks.
Every punch was accompanied by furious curses.
Honestly, watching the feed felt incredibly satisfying; at least someone was beating him bloody for me.
Plus, Damian didn't dare call the cops.
I orchestrated this on purpose because I wanted her mother to see the truth.
I wanted her to see what kind of daughter she had raised.
Moments later, Kelsey threw on a robe and scrambled out of the bedroom.
"Stop hitting him! Stop! Damian, are you okay?"
Her mother stared at the scene in utter shock.
"Kelsey, what the hell are you doing? How could you do this to Caleb?"
Kelsey cradled a battered Damian protectively.
"Mom, Damian and I are truly in love! We already got legally married!"
Hearing that, her mother almost passed out from pure rage.
She stepped forward and slapped Kelsey hard across the face.
"You disgraceful brat! You absolute disaster! How are we supposed to face Caleb now?"
"How did I raise such a shameless monster?"
"I don't care what you do, you divorce this trash right now and marry Caleb!"
Kelsey clutched her burning cheek, frantically shaking her head.
"Mom, stay out of my business! I can handle this!"
"I'm still going to marry Caleb, but you cannot tell him about Damian."
"If he finds out, he'll definitely break up with me!"
Her mother was left completely speechless.
"You... you're going to be the death of me!"
"You ungrateful little..."
Suddenly, her mother locked her eyes onto Damian, who was groaning on the floor.
She raised her foot and stomped her high heel directly between his legs.
A bullseye strike!
And she was wearing sharp stiletto heels!
I had to admit, my mother-in-law was ruthless.
Watching Damian writhe on the screen was pure entertainment.
Her mother was at least a reasonable person, which meant this wouldn't turn into an ugly family feud later.
Finally, she stormed out with the cousins.
Damian rolled on the carpet, clutching his groin and screaming in agony.
Eventually, he had to be rushed to the emergency room.
That's everything available right now.
