My screen finally lit up.

The boss's reply was finally here.

"This is nonsense! The company is in a critical stage of the IPO. You can't just leave!"

"Wait until I get back to handle whatever grievances you have. Don't add to my stress!"

Looking at that message, the last bit of hesitation in my heart vanished.

I felt completely numb.

I had realized long ago that the boss didn't actually care about the accounting department.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have blown me off every time I suggested optimizing the reimbursement process.

He wouldn't have rejected my plan to teach the sales team basic financial compliance.

In the office, the trial was still going on.

Vera saw me looking at my phone and ignoring her authority. Her voice hit a high, screeching pitch.

"Calvin Reed! Are you even listening? What is wrong with you!"

I turned off my screen and looked up. My face was expressionless, but my words made everyone freeze.

"Ms. Sterling, everyone... are you finished?"

The room went silent for a moment.

I stood up and walked over to Vera's desk.

I picked up the stack of forms Zackary had thrown at me and waved them slightly.

"Since everyone thinks I'm a soulless robot who's blocking the company's growth, fine."

I turned to Zackary and shoved the papers into his hands. My voice was flat.

"Zackary said he understands everyone's needs. So, I'm handing over all my work to him."

"Ms. Sterling, you don't have a problem with that, right?"

Vera was caught off guard by my sudden move.

But the other managers, especially Leo, immediately jumped on it.

"I think that's a great idea! Let Zack have a shot! Young people have fresh ideas!"

"Exactly! We've needed some new blood for a long time!"

Seeing the excitement and realizing she could finally push me down, Vera went along with it.

"Fine. Zack, you'll take over Calvin's duties for now. Do a good job. Don't let me down."

A look of pure joy and triumph exploded on Zackary's face. He looked like he wanted to jump for joy.

He gave me a provocative look and puffed out his chest.

"Don't worry, Ms. Sterling! Everyone, relax! I'll get everything done fast. No more waiting!"

I smiled slightly and added one more thing.

"I'll send an email to everyone stating that I've completed the handover. From this moment on, all responsibility lies with you."

Zackary was so drunk on his new power that he didn't even think.

"Yeah, yeah, I got it. Stop nagging!"

I nodded, said nothing more, and went back to my desk to slowly pack my things.
