Chapter 3

I called Uncle Leo and had him deliver a hyper-realistic prosthetic body I had prepared.

Disguised as a member of the recovery team, I wheeled the bag toward their room.

As I approached the door, I heard Xander's excited voice from inside.

"Yeah, she's dead. I'm the sole beneficiary."

"When can I expect the full twelve million from the policy？"

The greed in his voice was sickening.

I swiped the key card and pushed the door open. My eyes burned at the sight of them tangled together on the bed.

"Ah！"

Chloe screamed, scrambling to cover herself as she looked up from under Xander.

Xander jumped up, grabbing his clothes and glaring at me with pure malice.

"I told you people to leave me alone！ What the hell do you want now？"

I scanned the room, my heart heavy with a mix of fury and sadness.

The ring I had given him was tossed on the floor, crushed under Chloe's shoe.

There was a photo of us on the nightstand, but my face had been crossed out with a red marker.

Rage boiled in my chest. I clenched my fists so hard my nails dug into my palms.

When I didn't speak, Xander kicked at me.

"Are you deaf？ I'm talking to you！"

"I'm going to report you to your manager for invading my privacy. You're fired！"

Chloe got out of bed, her hand raised as if she was going to slap me.

I simply pointed to the bag I was dragging behind me.

"Mr. Sterling, we found Mrs. Sterling's body."

The words hit them like a physical blow. Chloe froze mid-air, her eyes wide with shock.

Xander's face turned ashen, and a flicker of genuine fear crossed his features.

Without another word, I unzipped the bag, revealing the fake body inside.
