Chapter 3 Even if that child is mine, I still can't accept this!
“Mrs. Morgan, now that you’re older, what do you want or expect from your one and only son, Christopher, this year?” the reporter asked the elderly woman.
She smiled, her beauty still evident even in old age. “I want a grandchild. I hope it will be easier for me to have one with Christopher and his girlfriend, Kristy. I’m praying for that blessing,” replied Mrs. Morgan. The beauty of this young woman was evident here.
Christopher smiled, and so did Kristy. He affectionately placed his hand on his girlfriend’s waist, clearly showing their love for each other.
“Soon, I’ll fulfill your wish, Mom,” Christopher responded to his mother. He smiled, revealing his even white teeth. “Right, hon?” Christopher joked with his fiancée, Kristy, pulling her even closer and planting a kiss on her cheek. Kristy simply smiled and reciprocated with a kiss on the lips.
“Is it true that a grand engagement party is coming up?” the reporter’s questions now focused on Christopher.
Christopher smiled, radiating happiness and love for his girlfriend. “Yes, I won’t wait any longer. I’m going to marry the woman I love so deeply,” Christopher declared, pulling Kristy closer and kissing her on the forehead once again.
The reporters were taken aback by Christopher’s answer. “So, when is the engagement?” the reporter curiously asked.
“Next week,” Christopher briefly replied.
Rachel’s POV
“Auntie, who is that man? Where does he live?” I asked the owner of the canteen where I was sitting, one question after another. I wanted to know because he is the father of my child.
My eyes were fixed on the screen. He was handsome. I had no idea he was the only child of a wealthy family.
“Hey, young girl! Haven’t you heard? His name is Christopher Morgan... he lives in Downtown New York. He’s famous, you know? A very handsome man. His fiancée is incredibly lucky. They’re both good-looking and fortunate to have each other. They’re both wealthy. Hey! Their lives are like a fairytale. Kristy is a commercial model. She’s my idol!” Auntie spoke at length, the owner of the cafeteria where I was.
“Thank you very much, Auntie. Maybe I can visit him in Downtown,” I said, smiling at the owner of the canteen.
Her eyebrows raised. “And why? Why would you go there, girl?” she asked me.
I hesitated for a moment.
Should I tell her that Christopher Morgan got me pregnant? In the end, I decided to be honest. I took a deep breath and answered her question. “I’m pregnant, and that man is the father,” I replied, my happiness evident. But her eyes widened.
“Oh my God, you’re so young! You must be daydreaming. How could a businessman like him get you pregnant? My God, you’re out of your mind. Have you eaten anything yet?” she said in disbelief, not believing what I had just revealed. But it’s true! He is the father of the child I’m carrying. Now that I know him, I’m going to NYC to let him know.
I will seek his support for our future child. I have no other choice. I need him so that my future son and I can have a life together.
“Auntie, can I have the address of the man on TV?”
She shook her head, reached for a piece of paper and a pen, and wrote something down. “You kid, you’re crazy. You should be eating on time. My God.” She was still shaking her head as she handed me the paper. “There’s the address. I’m leaving for now. Good luck,” she said to me and went to attend to a newly arrived customer.
“Thank you, Auntie.” I expressed my gratitude. I smiled because I finally knew who got me pregnant and who the father of my child was. But suddenly, I felt a pang of sadness realizing that he was getting married.
What will I do? It’s up to me. The important thing is that I can tell him about this. The important thing is that he knows he will have a child with me. ***
I woke up to a white ceiling above me. Slowly, I moved my hands. I looked around, and if I wasn’t mistaken, I was in the hospital right now. I remembered being at a party earlier, and suddenly my vision went dark after I announced to everyone that I was pregnant and Mr. Morgan was the father.
As I pondered, the door to the room I was in suddenly opened. Standing before me was a petite elderly woman, whose beauty had not faded with age. I recognized her instantly from her television appearances—she was Christopher’s mother.
I stared at her, and she approached me, taking a deep breath. “How are you feeling? You fainted from hunger. Fortunately, the child in your womb is unharmed,” she said to me.
I swallowed hard, recalling that I had barely eaten anything for a day because I had spent all my money trying to find their house. Despite my intense hunger, I endured it for the sake of my baby. I had made a promise to my unborn child that I would find its father, no matter what.
Overwhelmed by guilt, I lowered my head. Would she be furious with me for what I had done? For causing a scene at the party? For disrupting their son’s engagement celebration? That was never my intention. But suddenly, the words escaped my mouth, and I blurted out to everyone that I was pregnant and that Mr. Christopher was the father.
“Are you certain that my son is the father of your baby?” the lady inquired.
I simply nodded. I was absolutely certain that Christopher was the father of the child I carried. Before I left the hotel that night, I entrusted my precious secret to him. I had gazed into his face, and I couldn’t be mistaken. His handsome features remained etched in my mind.
My only mistake was revealing my pregnancy in front of his fiancée.
Amidst my silence, the door suddenly slammed shut. I turned to look, and even the lady glanced towards it.
“Where is that woman?” I widened my eyes in response to what I saw. His eyes blazed with anger, his fists clenched, yet he remained undeniably handsome. He was the father of my unborn child.
“Christopher?” his mother promptly intervened, preventing him from approaching me.
Fear gripped me, terrified that he might strike me for what I had done to ruin his engagement party.
He attempted to break free from his mother’s grasp and approach me. “Let me go, Mom! I want to teach that woman a lesson! She ruined my party, and even Kristy is furious with me and doesn’t want to see me anymore! I can’t let her get away with this!” he shouted furiously, struggling against his mother’s embrace.
Another man, unknown to me, entered the room.
“Honey, help me calm our son. He might lash out at the girl,” Mrs. Morgan pleaded. The middle-aged man, who seemed wise with age, swiftly came forward and joined in restraining Christopher.
“Christopher, she’s pregnant. Consider what you’re doing,” I could sense the lady’s unease as she spoke. Trembling with fear, I shrank back under his intense gaze.
“Just make sure it’s my child you’re carrying, because if it’s not...you’ll have to deal with me! And even if that child is mine, I still can’t accept this!” his voice reverberated, his eyes ablaze as he stared at me.
I bowed my head, tears streaming down my cheeks. I looked up briefly and caught a glimpse of him exiting the room before me.
