Chapter 1

Everyone knew my husband, Hayes, loved me to his core.

After my car accident, he never left my side.

He even wrote a will, ready to follow me to the grave when the doctor issued the critical condition notice.

But right after I lost our baby in that crash, strange lines of text started floating before my eyes.

"The supporting actress is so pathetic. She's still touched by the lead's love."

"She has no idea he bribed the doctors to harvest her bone marrow for the real heroine."

"Yeah, the accident was set up by Hayes himself. He didn't care she was pregnant."

"He only arranged the crash so he could force her to donate marrow to Clementine."

"Even marrying her was just to take better care of the heroine."

I watched the scrolling text in silence.

I turned away and began erasing every trace of my existence.

An unfaithful lover? I don't want him anymore.

At first, I didn't believe those floating comments.

Hayes and I had been together for three years and married for five. We never even had a real argument.

Even after this accident, he was the one running around, taking care of everything for me.

When I was pushed into the emergency room, he caused a scene, demanding to write a will so he could die with me.

How could a man like that betray me?

But the comments kept scrolling. I tried to ignore them until one landed right in front of my face.

"The poor wife doesn't know Hayes said he had work, but he's actually in Room 307 with the heroine."

"She's so gullible. Hayes claims to stay with her, but he always finds an excuse to leave after a few minutes."

"Poor thing really thinks he's deeply in love with her."

I told myself not to doubt him, but my feet moved toward Room 307 like they had a mind of their own.

Hayes always liked to keep a low profile, so even after a serious accident, I was in a regular ward.

The lady in the next bed snored loudly, keeping me up at night.

I had asked him to move me to a private VIP suite, but he always said it wasn't necessary since I'd be going home soon.

But now, I stood before a VIP suite.

Five minutes ago, Hayes told me he had an urgent meeting.

Now, he was sitting there with a tender gaze, peeling grapes and feeding them to Clementine.

The scene of their affection felt like a sharp slap to my face.

I couldn't help it. I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. My voice was hoarse and trembling.

"What are you two doing?"

Their eyes fell on me simultaneously. Hayes stood up, his face flashing with panic.

"Sylvia? Why are you here?"

He stammered an explanation. "Clementine is sick. I saw she was all alone in the hospital and felt sorry for her, so I came to check in."

Clementine coughed twice. Hayes instinctively reached out to pat her back.

His tone was protective and indulgent. "Don't rush. You're weak right now, you need to stay calm."

It took a while for Clementine to stop coughing. She looked up, her eyes shimmering with a thin layer of tears.

"Sister, don't blame Hayes. It's all my fault."

Hayes held her up, his eyes turning toward me with a hint of reproach.

"Sylvia, don't be so narrow-minded. Clementine is your sister. It's only right for me, as her brother-in-law, to take care of her."

Tucked behind Hayes, Clementine shot me a look of pure triumph.

I stood there, feeling a chill run through my entire body.

I stumbled out of the room, my world spinning.

The comments floated by right on cue.

"The main leads are so sweet together."

"Yeah, Hayes only married the wife back then so he could have a legitimate reason to look after the heroine."

Forced to marry me?

But I remembered him vowing to cherish me for the rest of his life.

My heart felt like a hollow cave, filled with a biting wind.

After a long silence, I wiped my tears and dialed a number.

"Ma'am, are you sure you want to delete all your identity records?"

"Once your information is erased, you will enter a 'deceased' status. You will no longer exist in the system."

The floating comments were filled with disdain and mockery.

"What is she doing? Does she think this will make him feel guilty and trigger a 'chase-her-back' plot?"

"So stupid. The hero and heroine are the official couple! Even if she dies, it won't change their feelings."

"Whatever, let her leave. Stop ruining the sweet moments between the leads."

I ignored the messages. I tightened my grip on the phone and whispered a confirmation.

"Yes. Do it."

"Very well, Ma'am. Your information will be completely wiped in three days. You will be legally 'dead'."
