Chapter 1

1

My fiancé, Chad, always made me bring him a specific box of coffee before his late-night work sessions.

It was the 99th time I'd delivered it, and I accidentally dropped the box.

The individual packets inside spilled out.

My breath hitched, my mind blank.

It wasn't coffee at all. It was a variety pack of condoms.

Then, from inside his office, I heard Chad's husky voice, laced with lust.

"Why'd you stop?"

"I want Allie to personally deliver the goods. It gets me fired up. Plus, I don't want you getting pregnant."

"And every time you ask me to do this, I'm terrified Allie will find out and leave."

"Do you still love her?"

"Yeah, she's the only one for me. You just get my body."

The rest was just a disgusting symphony of moans and gasps.

Through the crack in the door, I saw the man who swore he'd never cheat, now entangled with another woman.

My heart turned to ash. I slipped off my engagement ring and tossed it into the nearest trash can. Seven years, down the drain.

...

As soon as I stepped out of the office building, my phone rang. It was Chad.

"Allie, I'm about to crash. Where's that coffee? I'm dying here!"

I'd barely gotten a grip on my emotions, and hearing his voice sent a fresh wave of nausea through me.

He was probably sprawled in his office chair, hands all over Brittany, while ordering me to deliver his condoms.

I clenched the coffee box, my hand shaking so hard I almost crushed it.

"Do you really need it tonight?" I managed to ask.

"Absolutely. It's my routine. Just bring it, okay?"

I gave a bitter laugh. My legs felt like jelly. I turned around and headed back.

I'd imagined a hundred times just ripping into Chad, telling him it was over.

But when I pushed open his office door, Chad was sitting at his desk, all business, gold-rimmed glasses perched on his nose. Brittany was at her desk across from him, working away.

Everything looked perfectly normal. I walked over and placed the box on his desk.

"I heard coffee's bad for you if you drink it all the time. Maybe you should skip it tonight," I said, making a show of reaching for the box to toss it in the trash.

Chad snatched it up before I could. "No way. I can't get through these files without it."

"Managing a big company takes a lot of energy," he added.

Normally, that would make me feel guilty. I couldn't help him with his workload.

Now, all that sympathy was gone.

"Chad, do you even love me?" I asked.

"Silly girl, of course, I love you. Why would you even ask?"

He leaned in and kissed me on the cheek.

Brittany's face darkened, her hands clenching into fists. I'd noticed those little moments before.

"Alright, it's getting late. You should head home," Chad said.

"And get some rest!" He told me to lock up on my way out.

The second I was gone, they couldn't keep it together. Brittany slammed Chad against the wall.

"Okay, your condoms are here. Can we get started now?"

She kissed him hard, and then the office was filled with the sounds of them going at it.
