A new text message pinged on Emily’s phone. It was from Olivia. A video. Emily’s hand trembled as she pressed play. Olivia, laughing, in Ethan’s bed. Ethan, shirtless, kissing her neck. The audio was clear, their whispered endearments a brutal soundtrack to Emily’s devastation. "He loves this," Olivia purred to the camera, then turned it back to Ethan. The video ended. Emily felt a wave of nausea. The pain was a physical thing, coiling in her stomach, tightening her chest. She wanted to scream, to break something, to erase the images seared into her brain.

She closed her eyes, trying to breathe. The air in their luxurious penthouse suddenly felt suffocating. Every object, every piece of art, every carefully chosen furnishing, was a reminder of the life she thought they were building. A life built on his lies. Her love, once so strong, so certain, was now a gaping wound. The betrayal cut deeper than she could have imagined.

Olivia’s texts became a daily torment. Selfies of her wearing Emily’s engagement ring, a cruel parody. "Fits me perfectly, don't you think?" Photos of expensive dinners, weekends away, gifts Ethan had claimed were for "business associates." "He's so generous when he's happy. And I make him very happy." Each message was a deliberate, calculated strike, designed to inflict maximum pain. Emily didn't block the number. She saved every message, every photo, every video. Evidence. Mr. Jones would need it for the final act.

Ethan returned late that night, smelling of wine and Olivia’s perfume. He found Emily sitting in the dark, staring out at the city lights. "Em? You okay? You look pale." His voice was laced with that familiar, false concern. She didn't turn. "Just tired." He came up behind her, placed his hands on her shoulders. "Long day. Innovatech is crazy right now. You know how it is." She knew. She knew it was all lies. His touch felt repulsive. She subtly shrugged him off.

The next day, a large bouquet of roses arrived. Red, her favorite. The card read: "For my beautiful Emily. Counting down the days. All my love, E." A few hours later, Olivia texted a photo of an identical bouquet in her own apartment. "He has such good taste, doesn't he? Though I prefer white roses. He remembered that for next time." Emily threw Ethan’s roses in the trash, stems and all. The gesture was small, unseen, but it felt like a tiny act of rebellion.

Ethan's friends, their shared social circle, continued to gush about his devotion. At a cocktail party, one of Ethan’s business partners clapped him on the back. "You're a lucky man, Ethan. Emily is one of a kind." "I know," Ethan said, smiling, his arm possessively around Emily's waist. "The luckiest." The irony was a bitter taste in Emily's mouth. She played along, the perfect fiancée, while her mind raced with escape plans.

The Sotheby's charity auction for the children's hospital was a major social event. Ethan was a benefactor, expected to make a significant donation. He had promised Emily the antique locket, "a symbol of our eternal love." As the locket was presented, Olivia Vance made her entrance. She wore a dress that was too revealing, her smile too bright. She took a seat provocatively close to Ethan’s table, catching his eye. When the bidding for the locket began, Ethan raised his paddle. Then, Olivia raised hers, a smirk directed at Emily. The price climbed. Ethan, flustered and angry, made an outrageously high bid, silencing the room. He won the locket.

He presented it to Emily with a flourish, the crowd applauding. She accepted it, her fingers cold against the metal. It felt like a prop in a play. "Just need to step away for a moment," Ethan murmured, excusing himself. Olivia got up and followed him. Emily’s heart pounded. She had to know. She slipped away, following them towards the VIP lounge. She found them in a secluded corner, near the valet stand. Their exchange was heated, intimate. Then, a passionate kiss. Olivia slipped something into her purse – the locket box? – before disappearing into the night. Emily felt a cold dread.
