Chapter 2

Lawrence Jordan, the CEO of Jordan Corp, didn't take long to explode.

"My sweet girl, who is bothering you?" his voice boomed through the phone. "Tell me who it is. I'll ruin them."

With my father's support, all my frustration came pouring out.

"Dad, remember that new product launch you gave me? I worked so hard on it. But my boss decided to give it to his mistress instead. He said me having the contract was bad for company unity."

I could hear my father slamming his fist onto his mahogany desk.

"Don't you worry, Nora. I'm calling my assistant right now to terminate the partnership."

Then came the usual lecture. He'd been trying to get me to work for the family business for years.

"I told you to come work for me. You insisted on 'gaining experience' at that tiny firm. Look what happened. Every low-life thinks they can step on you."

I tuned him out, a plan forming in my head. "Dad, I love you, but I'm not coming back yet. I have a debt to settle first."

I was the sole heiress to the Jordan empire. After college, I could have walked into a VP position.

But I wanted to prove I could do it on my own. I didn't want to be just another nepo baby.

For years, I worked under my mother's maiden name. I climbed from the bottom to become the youngest Creative Director in the company's history.

My father had given me this project as a test of my skills. To keep my secret, I never dealt with the Jordan Corp reps directly.

My boss probably thought he secured the deal through his own legendary charm.

Jordan Corp was a giant. This new product was the most anticipated launch of the year.

If they hadn't pushed me too far, I would have let the company take the credit.

But they really thought they could win without me. They didn't realize that I was the only reason the door was open in the first place.
