Chapter 1

I used to be a low-level clerk at the Water Management Bureau.

On the night the Stillwater dam was about to burst, my fiancée, Willow Townsend, insisted on going to the Moonlight Festival with her childhood sweetheart, Neil Yardley.

In my past life, I dragged her to her parents' estate to save them, only to later hear that Neil had been killed.

He was caught in a riot during the festival, and his body was carried away, never to be found.

"If you hadn't kept me away from him, he wouldn't have died!" Willow screamed at me.

"I'm going to make you suffer a hundred times more than he did!"

On our wedding night, Willow's face twisted with murderous rage as she tightened a cord around my neck, watching me gasp for my final breath.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day the dam collapsed.

Even though I've been reborn, my neck still aches with a phantom pain.

I gasped for air, but all I heard was Willow's irritated voice echoing in the room.

"We're only engaged, Logan. You have no right to tell me where I can or can't go!"

She gave me a disgusted look before turning back to the vanity mirror to fix her makeup.

In the reflection, her face was soft and beautiful, like a spring blossom.

No one would ever guess that in a few months, this woman would ruthlessly murder her own husband.

In our town, the social scene was quite open, and young couples often met at mixers.

If you hit it off and the families agreed, an engagement followed shortly after.

Willow and I met at a garden party, and I fell for her almost instantly.

But on the day we got engaged, she told me her heart belonged to someone else.

She even told me she wouldn't sleep with me after the wedding.

I loved her so much back then that I actually agreed to her ridiculous terms.

Looking back, I was the ultimate fool.

As soon as the rings were on, she couldn't wait to run back to her lover, Neil.

They grew up together, and once she had my permission, they didn't even try to hide their affair.

For the sake of my love for her, I endured the humiliation of being cuckolded in public.

Then the flood came. I forced her to stay safe and rushed to save her parents, while Neil died alone in the city.

Instead of being grateful that I saved her family, she blamed me for Neil's death.

And in the end, she choked the life out of me.

I looked at her now, watching her adjust her hair.

That pretty face suddenly looked like a mask of a monster.

Willow noticed my gaze and frowned with suspicion.

"Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Say something! Are you a mute now?"

I looked at her coldly and said, "The Stillwater dam is going to burst tonight at eleven."

In my last life, I only guessed the time, but after living through it, that hour was burned into my soul.

Willow let out a mocking laugh.

"Who do you think you are? A psychic from a carnival?"

"A flood? Exactly at eleven? If you were that talented, the Governor would have hired you already!"

She scoffed, casually pinning a diamond brooch into her hair.

"I know what you're doing. You're just making things up to stop me from seeing Neil."

"Don't forget, you promised you wouldn't care what I do."

"Otherwise, I never would have agreed to marry a loser like you!"

I took a deep breath. "Willow, I'm serious."

"This flood will destroy the whole town, especially your parents' estate by the river. It'll be underwater."

Willow's face went dark, and she glared at me with pure hatred.

"Logan Ward! You're actually cursing my parents just to keep me away from Neil?"

I met her gaze with a calm, steady look.

"Calm down and listen. The water levels have been rising for days, and the foundation is weak."

"The recent construction on the Town Hall moved the earth near the levee, and so..."

"Shut up! You're just a tiny clerk. You think you're an expert?"

"I'm telling you, if Neil hadn't failed his exams, I would never have looked at you!"

"One more word out of you, and I'm calling off the wedding!"
