Chapter 2

The man was middle-aged and wearing a white lab coat.

I recognized him from the hospital's website―Director Harrison.

He looked at the chaos and zeroed in on Melanie, then turned to me with an air of fake authority.

"Ma'am, let's be civil. Don't use violence in my hospital. I'll ensure justice is served."

I let go of Melanie, my voice cold.

"She's trying to steal my son's donor heart."

Melanie immediately ran to Harrison's side, sobbing.

"Uncle Harrison, you have to help me. Prince's heart is failing, and he only has a week left."

"Dominic and I love him so much. We offered to buy the heart, but this woman attacked me!"

At the mention of Dominic, Harrison's expression shifted into a sycophantic grin.

"Of course. Mr. Sterling's business is my priority. I'll handle this."

He turned to me, his eyes full of contempt.

"Listen here. Since the heart is in my hospital, I decide where it goes."

"We have to prioritize emergencies. Your son isn't dead yet, but Mr. Sterling's dog is in critical condition."

My eyes widened in disbelief.

"You're a doctor! How can you say that?"

"A human heart cannot be used in a dog! This is medical malpractice!"

"If you do this, I'll expose you to the whole world!"

I reached for my phone, but Harrison signaled the guards.

They snatched it and smashed it onto the floor.

His face darkened as he sneered.

"You think you can threaten me? This hospital is backed by Sterling Global."

"Dominic Sterling is our biggest shareholder. Why would I save a peasant brat over his dog?"

My blood boiled.

"Sterling Global? I could ruin that company in minutes if I wanted to!"

Dominic only reached the top because of my father's secret support.

Destroying a small-time empire is much easier than building one from scratch.

Harrison didn't look worried; he looked amused.

"The poor girl has lost her mind. She's hallucinating."

"Security, she needs some 'therapy' to calm down. Get the taser."

The guards pinned me down again.

"This is illegal! Stop now while you still have a chance!" I screamed.

"In a few minutes, there will be no turning back!"

My father was supposed to arrive today for the surgery.

He was a man who built his empire on blood and iron.

If he saw what they were doing to his daughter and grandson, no one would survive.

Harrison hesitated for a split second, but Melanie cut in.

"Who is she threatening? I told you, Dominic is the law here!"

"She's clearly still confused. Tase her! If she dies, I'll take the heat!"

The guards didn't hesitate anymore.

The taser slammed into my side, and a violent current ripped through my body.

I fell to the floor, my muscles locked in agonizing spasms.

Cold sweat poured down my face as I shivered, barely able to speak.

"It won't work... a human heart... won't work in a dog..."

Melanie knelt down and pulled my hair, forcing me to look at her.

"I know that, you idiot," she whispered in my ear.

"I'm doing this because I made a bet with my friends that my dog's life is worth more than a human's."

"It's just your bad luck that I picked you. Blame your poor upbringing."

I gritted my teeth and looked her in the eye.

"How can you be so sure I'm a nobody?"

She slapped me again, her ego flaring.

"If you were someone, you wouldn't be on the floor bleeding, would you?"

The slap made my ears ring.

Through the haze, I saw Leo running toward us.

He bit Melanie's arm with everything he had.

"Leave my mommy alone!"

Melanie screamed in pain and threw him off her.

"I forgot about this little bastard. Tase him too!"

I threw myself over Leo just as the guard aimed the taser.

In the chaos, a black Porsche Cayenne screeched to a halt at the hospital entrance.
