Chapter 2
1
Today was the big day for my brother, Caleb, and Selene, the woman who murdered me.
My soul lingered, barely holding onto this world, as I watched the scene with cold detachment.
A wedding between a cheater and a murderess was not worth anyone's blessing.
The courtyard was draped in a long crimson carpet, and on the stage, the couple looked absolutely radiant.
Down below, my parents were weeping with joy, completely moved.
I watched as Caleb checked his phone again, tapping into our chat thread.
I saw the many messages he had sent me, telling me about the engagement, about his upcoming marriage.
He had given me the date and demanded I come home immediately.
He said he wanted me to witness his happiness.
But I couldn't come back. I was trapped in a dry well, pushed down by people hired by his own fiancée on the day of their engagement.
My body was probably rotting away by now.
Big brother, please, hurry up and pull me out.
Brother, don't you realize that Selene isn't the daughter of some benefactor like Dad said?
She is...
And Dad, he...
How strange. Even as a ghost, I'm blocked from saying that secret out loud.
Selene tapped his phone screen shut. "Stop checking. She's not coming back. Who knows who she's out partying with now?"
Caleb sighed, masking the disappointment in his eyes, and continued with the wedding.
Just as they were about to exchange rings, a man with bloodshot eyes burst into the venue.
Trailing behind him was an elderly couple, their hair white as snow, stumbling as they walked.
My heart ached. That red-eyed man was Jasper, my boyfriend, the one I was supposed to marry.
"Caleb, how can you still have the heart to get married and play happy here?"
He stormed onto the stage, punching Caleb square in the face, then turned and slapped Selene hard across the cheek.
Chaos erupted. Everything descended into madness as my parents scrambled onto the stage, trying to restrain Jasper.
But how could they stop him? Jasper was like a madman, raining blows on Selene until her mouth and nose were bleeding.
"Jasper, have you lost your mind?"
Caleb finally pulled Jasper away, shielding his wife, Selene.
"Hahaha! Have I lost my mind, Caleb? Clara is gone, and you're still here throwing an engagement party? You two are not her family! You don't deserve to be her family!"
"What are you talking about?"
Caleb frowned. "Didn't Clara move in with you? Why is she missing?"
Jasper looked at Caleb and my family with pure disgust. Slowly, he pulled out his phone and showed them a photo―a picture of a dry well.
Then, I saw a casket being carried in from the entrance.
The casket entered, accompanied by a mournful, haunting melody.
The white funeral flowers clashed with the bright red wedding decorations.
The sorrowful music and the wedding march tangled together in a sickening discord.
I watched them. Their eyes went wide with terror, grief, shock, and despair.
