Chapter 3
3.
Once I got in, he grabbed a handful of napkins and tossed them onto my lap.
"If you had reminded me earlier, I would've driven you here," he grumbled.
"You don't know how to drive like Hanna does, so getting around must be such a hassle for you."
Years ago, I had wanted to get my driver's license.
He had brushed it off dismissively, saying, "You're just a housewife. Why bother getting a license when you'll never need to drive anywhere?"
"Why aren't you saying anything?" he asked, glancing sideways when I stayed quiet.
"There's nothing to say," I replied calmly.
"Are you throwing a tantrum just because I couldn't make it today?"
Garrett's brows furrowed tightly.
He slammed his foot on the gas pedal, making the car lurch violently forward.
It felt like his petty way of punishing me.
He knew I got terrible motion sickness, and unless the ride was smooth, I would end up nauseous.
I swallowed hard, suppressing the churn in my stomach.
"I'm not throwing a tantrum."
In the past, I would have desperately scrambled to explain myself just to keep him from getting angry.
Now, none of it mattered anymore.
"Fine. So where do you want to eat..."
Before he could finish his sentence, his phone mounted on the dashboard lit up with an incoming call.
The caller ID flashed brightly: 【My Baby Hanna】.
Garrett's pupils shrank in panic.
"Hanna changed that contact name herself. I'll change it back in a second."
"No need. It suits her quite well."
Surprise flashed across his eyes, but before he could speak, I turned my gaze away and opened my phone.
I quietly began searching for reputable local divorce attorneys.
"Hey, Hanna, what's up?" Garrett answered the call, his voice softening instantly.
A sugary, high-pitched voice purred through the car speakers.
"Garrett, I saw some super fresh jumbo prawns at the market, so I bought a bunch and came over to your place! I can cook dinner for you and Clara tonight!"
"Uh, well..." Garrett hesitated, glancing nervously at me.
"Sure, she's more than welcome to join us," I spoke up, answering for him.
Garrett stared at me with wide, disbelieving eyes, as if he could not fathom hearing those words from my mouth.
It was no wonder he looked so shocked.
In the past, I despised Hanna.
I hated when she came over uninvited, and I hated whenever Garrett spent time with her.
A woman's intuition is never wrong, and I knew all along that she harbored dirty intentions toward my husband.
Yet every time I tried to set boundaries, Garrett would blow up at me for getting in the way of their friendship.
We had fought over her countless times over the years.
He had long forgotten the sacred vow he made to my dying mother.
And slowly, we had drifted past the point of no return.
That's everything available right now.
