Chapter 2
1、
I put all my strength into that kick. Soren's face turned pale from the pain.
The employees who had been laughing with him instantly went silent.
Everyone looked at me in shock.
They all knew Soren was Evelina's favorite. Offending Soren was the same as offending Evelina.
And everyone also knew I was Evelina's most devoted lapdog.
Soren clutched his chest, his eyes filled with resentment.
"Can't you take a joke? You're being way too sensitive!"
"Evelina, my chest hurts so much. I think he broke my ribs!"
The next moment, two security guards grabbed me by the arms. Evelina's high-heeled boot slammed into my stomach.
She had practiced ballet for over a decade. Her leg strength was no joke.
A sharp pain radiated through my abdomen. My face went white, and cold sweat broke out on my forehead.
But Evelina didn't care. She stared at me with pure rage.
It was as if I weren't her husband, but her sworn enemy.
"Caleb Vance, have you lost your mind!"
"Soren was just trying to add some fun to our wedding. He did it out of kindness. What's wrong with a little dog hair to show your appreciation!"
My back was already starting to itch uncontrollably. I looked at her with bloodshot eyes.
"You know very well that I'm deathly allergic to dog fur."
She remained unmoved, waving it off like it was nothing.
"So what? An allergy isn't going to kill you."
"Stop acting like a victim and apologize to Soren right now! Or don't even think about signing those marriage papers with me later."
Hearing those words felt like a thousand needles piercing my heart.
In Evelina's heart, my health wasn't even worth one of Soren's smiles.
Soren gave me a triumphant look, though he quickly put on a face of regret.
"Evelina, I'm the one who should apologize. I didn't mean to ruin your wedding. I just didn't realize Mr. Vance was so thin-skinned."
"Mr. Vance, I'm sorry. If you're still mad, I'll slap myself!"
He actually raised his hand.
But a second before his palm could land, Evelina grabbed his wrist, her eyes full of pity.
"What are you doing! You didn't do anything wrong! You aren't the one who needs to be slapped!"
She turned back to me, her gentle gaze turning lethal.
"Slap yourself right now. Consider it an apology to Soren!"
I fought back the physical discomfort, my eyes burning with fury.
"Evelina, have you forgotten that I almost ended up in the ICU just to save you from a stray dog?"
"And now, at our wedding, you let your assistant humiliate me with a dog? Does your conscience not bother you at all?"
A flash of hesitation crossed Evelina's eyes.
Soren noticed the shift in her mood and started groaning louder.
"My chest hurts so much… I can't breathe!"
"Evelina, am I going to die?"
Hearing that, Evelina's hesitation vanished instantly.
"Caleb, I know you've always been jealous of Soren. That's why you hit him so hard."
"But why did you have to make a scene at our wedding? Are you trying to embarrass me on purpose!"
"Get on your knees and apologize to Soren right now!"
I let out a cold laugh.
I walked straight up to Soren and delivered a sharp slap across his face.
"Is that apology sincere enough for you?"
"Caleb Vance! You're asking for it!"
The next second, four bodyguards tackled me to the ground.
Under the gaze of all the guests, I was forced to crawl like a dog at Soren's feet.
He picked up a bottle of champagne and poured it over my head.
Evelina didn't stop him. Instead, she threw the empty bottle at my skull.
A sharp, stinging pain surged through my body.
Her cold voice echoed in my ear.
"Until you learn to kneel before Soren and beg for his forgiveness, there will be no wedding!"
She then took Soren's arm and turned to leave.
I stared at their retreating backs and spoke up.
"Evelina, if you care about this little assistant so much, then you aren't fit to be my wife."
Evelina froze in her tracks.
