Chapter 2
01
When I snapped back to reality, Killian was rushing toward me with his men in tow.
"Saffron, there's an emergency at the docks. I have to go right now!"
He pulled me into his arms and pressed a soft kiss to my forehead.
"I'm sorry, baby. When I get back, I'll make it up to you, I promise."
I expressionlessly wiped the spot where his lips had touched my skin.
How many times had that mouth kissed Isla?
Killian panicked instantly, grabbing my hand tight.
"Saffron, are you mad at me?"
"I know it's our wedding night, and I shouldn't leave. But this is urgent, and I really have no choice."
I looked at this man I had loved for seven years and felt a sudden wave of nausea.
One second, he was reminiscing about his passion with another woman. The next, he was playing the devoted husband.
"Killian, let's get a divorce."
Killian froze, looking at me with a wounded expression.
"Saffron, are you still throwing a tantrum because of what happened with Isla?"
"She took a bullet for me once, and this time she was drugged while saving my life. Shouldn't I have saved her?"
"Saffron, we agreed this was over. Today is our wedding day."
Despite his humble tone, every word was a defense of Isla.
I felt like laughing. He knew it was our wedding day.
Yet he had the audacity to run off to a mistress on day one.
A sharp pain stabbed at my heart, and my body began to tremble.
Just then, Killian's phone buzzed with a message.
He glanced at it, his Adam's apple bobbing as a dark, unreadable look crossed his eyes.
Knowing him for years, I knew that look meant he was turned on.
He patted my back gently, his voice silky smooth.
"Alright, Saffron, stop being difficult. I'll compensate you when I'm back!"
Then, he turned and walked away without looking back.
My heart turned to ice, and I stood there for a long time.
It wasn't until my phone vibrated that I moved.
It was a photo from Isla.
My blood ran cold when I opened it―it was a positive pregnancy report.
"Saffron, I'm sorry, but I'm carrying Killian's child. Please, just let us be together!"
My hands wouldn't stop shaking.
Three years after arriving in this world, I was thrown into the freezing ocean to save Killian.
It damaged my body, and I was told I could never carry a child.
Killian had told me he would love me forever, even without kids.
He even claimed he had a vasectomy just to put my mind at ease.
And yet, he had managed to get someone else pregnant.
I sent back a simple "Fine" and turned off my phone.
