Chapter 3

3

The familiar sound of high heels echoed from outside the station.

Lydia was here.

She really couldn't help herself.

"Officer, I'm Selene's sister," her voice drifted in, sweet and fake. "I brought her medicine. Can I see her?"

"No. Suspects cannot have visitors," the officer replied coldly.

The sound of heels faded. Then I heard my father's voice. "Lydia, who did Selene piss off?"

"Uncle, I don't know either," Lydia started crying. "Yesterday she said she was going to get engaged to Caleb. Today, she's like this..."

Engaged? I almost laughed out loud.

In my previous life, they used the engagement party as a cover. They got me drunk and stole my fingerprints.

The clock on the wall hit 4:20 PM.

Ten minutes left.

I stood up and stretched. The heavy door creaked open slightly. A junior officer poked his head in. "Selene, your family sent food."

He was holding a thermal container. His eyes were darting around nervously.

I glanced at the container. It was the strawberry cake Lydia loved. It was definitely spiked with something.

"Take it away. I'm not eating," I said, turning my back to him.

The officer tried to insist, but an argument broke out in the hallway. It was my mother and Lydia.

"Why are you giving Selene sleeping pills?" my mother's voice was sharp.

"Auntie, I was just afraid she wouldn't be able to sleep..."

"I think you're afraid she'll stay awake!"

The footsteps got closer. My mother pushed the door open, holding a pill bottle. "Selene, this girl is trying to hurt you!"

Lydia followed behind, her face pale. "Auntie, you misunderstood. Those are just vitamins..."

4:28 PM.

4:29 PM.

"Enough," I interrupted her. I looked at the clock. It was exactly 4:30 PM.

The moment the hand moved, I felt an invisible shackle snap.

The tragedy of my past life was happening in another space right now.

But this time, I wasn't there.

"Officer," I said suddenly. My voice was terrifyingly calm. "I want to give my statement. I'll tell you everything about why I smashed those cars."

Everyone froze. The woman who was just acting like a lunatic was suddenly perfectly normal.

Lydia's eyes flashed with panic. She took a step toward me. "Sis, don't push yourself..."

"4:30 PM." I stared at the clock, enunciating every word. "All of you should remember this exact time."

The moment the clock ticked past 4:30, the TV in the hallway flared to life.

A news alert broke through the financial channel: "Grandview Group is facing a sudden financial crisis. Eighty million dollars have been illegally transferred. The police have launched an investigation..."

Lydia's face turned white as a sheet.

I smiled. I looked at the stunned officer. "Now, can we start the report?"

That's everything available right now.
