Chapter 2

Caleb didn't come home until the next morning.
Maybe he felt guilty about ditching the pierogis, because he brought breakfast.
It was a bag of artisan breakfast burritos from a shop that usually had a massive line.
"I stood in line forever to get these. Eat them while they're hot," Caleb urged.
I habitually checked social media. An hour ago, Scarlett had posted a photo.
It was a picture of a half-eaten burrito with the caption: "Best breakfast ever."
I opened the bag. Every single burrito was torn open, the fillings spilling out messily.
I couldn't help but look at him. "I don't like broken burritos, Caleb."
His face twisted in anger.
"Are you seriously looking for a fight right now, Lyra? Eat them or don't!"
Caleb slammed the door as he left.
I threw the entire bag into the trash can.
I changed my clothes and headed to a law firm.
I didn't want broken burritos, and I certainly didn't want a filthy man.
