Chapter 3

3 That's why I realized, we hadn't done it in a while.

When did we stop?

I was actually thinking about this for the first time.

Did it start when he got promoted?

Or when he started going on business trips?

Or even longer ago?

He hadn't said it in a while.

It was like he always knew I would be home on time.

He forgot that it was a thing I let him have.

And that I can take away whenever I wanted.

Liam froze, knowing exactly what I meant. He hesitated for a second.

Then, some girl yelled, "Liam! Hurry up! We're waiting!"

It was Emily.

She was close to the phone. She laughed.

"You haven't even tied the knot, and she's already watching you. This is going to be annoying."

Liam didn't say anything. Emily asked again, "Hurry up, we are doing truth or dare."

Liam finally spoke, his voice softer, a little pleading. "Babe..."

I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to ignore everything.

"You don't have to come home ever again."

Liam sounded shocked, then annoyed. "Babe, this is my last bachelor party."

He was blaming me.

Like I was the one forcing him into this.

Everyone knows I've been good to him these last three years. I would give him the world.

A week ago at a friend's wedding, the bride jokingly asked me, "When are you planning to get married?"

"Soon, not too soon."

"Six months from now."

Liam and I answered at the exact same time.

Liam was annoyed.

It made everyone uncomfortable.

I smiled, trying to be polite. "Probably the end of the year, planning a wedding is hard."

Liam was silent, just to be nice.

But when we got home, he snapped at me.

"Zhang Wanwan! Why do you have to push me?! I am only twenty-five!"

So?

I laughed.

We've been together for three years. He used to hold my arm and tell me he wanted to marry me.

For the last two years, he wished to marry me on his birthday.

Did he forget already?

We didn't come to an agreement.

He was just complaining. I was tired.

I didn't even want to fight him.

Liam stormed out, and didn't come home that night.

I knew that Emily probably asked him to hang out.

Or else why would he tell me he was going to a party the next day?

And today, it was a party again.
