Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Gavin and I had been together for three years.

We went from college sweethearts to the verge of marriage, once envied by everyone around us.

Everything changed the day a girl named Gia joined our airline.

Gavin, who rarely smiled, came home beaming with pride to tell me he had taken on a female apprentice.

In the beginning, he sounded slightly annoyed whenever he brought her up.

"That new girl is so clumsy. She cannot even organize flight documents properly. I have no idea how she expects to fly a plane."

"Besides, I am a taken man. Upper management assigning her to me is just giving me unnecessary trouble!"

Over time, Gavin mentioned Gia more and more frequently. He stopped calling her "the new girl" and started calling her "Gia."

He never realized that every time he spoke her name, his eyes carried an uncontrollable tenderness.

I saw it all, yet I chose to stay silent.

Back then, I thought a girl who had only been around for a few months could never compete with our three years of history.

I was dead wrong.

I looked down at my phone. Three minutes ago, Gia had posted a new update.

Her caption read, "I have the most amazing mentor giving me a wrist massage. Do you guys have one?"

In the picture below, a man's large hand gently held a slender, pale wrist. If not for the matching engagement ring on the man's finger, it would have been a rather touching photo.

Scrolling down, I immediately spotted Gavin's comment.

"Be this careless again, and I will break that hand myself!"

Even through the screen, I could feel Gavin's protective warmth and deep affection for her.

I mechanically swiped through the screen, an overwhelming bitterness filling my chest.

From the first time Gavin abandoned me at our wedding for Gia, I should have known.

His heart had already drifted away.

It did not matter whether it was Gia or someone else.

Just as he had told me during the first wedding he walked out on.

"Gia is just a young girl. You are a grown woman acting jealous and petty. Aren't you embarrassed?"

In Gavin's eyes, my youth had already faded, leaving me unable to compete with someone so young and vibrant.

I wiped the tears from the corner of my eyes, swallowing all my grievances.

Then, I sent a text to my supervisor.

"Director Adams, I would like to submit my resignation."

These three years of emotional turmoil had completely drained me.

Since there was no longer any room for me in Gavin's heart, there was no reason for me to keep holding on.

Director Adams was surprised and quickly called to check on me.

I simply told him I was exhausted and needed a long break.

Back then, just to stand closer to Gavin, I worked relentlessly to get hired at the same airline.

Even though being a flight attendant was completely outside my college major, and even though the job required endless red-eye shifts and irregular hours.

I had never complained once.

Now, the future I had dedicated my entire life to had crumbled into dust. There was no longer any reason for me to stay.

The world was vast, and I wanted to see it on my own.
