Chapter 3
3.
"Selina, do you think Lucas heard what we said on your birthday?"
Through the crack in the door, I saw Selina leaning back lazily in her chair.
"Even if he did, so what? He can't survive without me."
The room erupted in laughter.
Someone suggested that I probably didn't hear anything.
"He seemed normal enough. I don't think he knows."
Damian pulled Selina onto his lap, playing with her hair. "When are you going to leave him?"
Selina arched an eyebrow. "Why would I divorce him? Life is good right now."
Damian snapped and bit her lip in frustration.
Selina frowned and pushed him away, sounding annoyed.
"Damian, are you a dog?"
"Lucas can give me a life of luxury. Can you?"
Damian looked humiliated but couldn't find the words to argue.
Selina leaned in and kissed the corner of his mouth, whispering something in his ear that made him instantly brighten up.
I knew that move all too well.
Every time Selina made me angry, she used that exact trick.
The things she whispered were always about what she'd do to me in bed.
Selina didn't come home that night.
She just sent a text saying her friend was too drunk and she had to stay and take care of her.
I had seen that excuse at least once a month for years.
And I had never doubted her for a second.
When I woke up the next morning, I saw several messages sent in the middle of the night.
The moment I opened them, my phone hit the floor.
Damian had sent me several videos.
They were clips of him and Selina together.
The sounds of her moaning echoed through the empty bedroom.
I don't know how long I sat there before I finally got up to get ready.
The entire morning, I was a ghost.
Her voice kept playing on a loop in my mind.
When Leo walked into my office for the third time, I asked if I could stay at his place for a few days.
He didn't even ask why; he just said yes.
As the day ended, Selina sent her usual text asking what I wanted for dinner.
I couldn't wrap my head around how she could be such a good actress.
She had just climbed out of another man's bed, and now she was acting like a doting wife.
Then I realized―if she wasn't such a good actress, I wouldn't have been a fool for six years.
I didn't reply. I just turned off the phone.
The lawyer knocked and came in.
"Mr. Thorne, you wanted to see me?"
I told him to change the divorce terms. Selina was to leave with absolutely nothing.
When I got home, the lights were still on.
Selina was lying on the sofa, and I could see faint red marks on her neck.
She opened her eyes when she heard me.
Seeing it was me, she gave me that warm, gentle smile.
"Have you eaten? There's food warming in the kitchen."
Looking at the fake love in her eyes, I almost wondered if the last few days had been a hallucination.
I suppressed the bile in my throat. "I'm fine. I'm going to bed."
As I turned to leave, Selina grabbed my hand.
"Luke, what's wrong? You've been acting weird lately."
I gently pulled my hand out of her grip.
"Nothing. Just busy with work."
I closed the bedroom door on her confused expression.
That's everything available right now.
