Chapter 3
3
"Why is Rosalie's phone down here? "
I couldn't understand it.
I had just searched the whole place and found no one.
Besides, a man had answered her phone earlier.
Was someone hiding in the dark with her cell phone?
Then who was the person who just locked me in and laughed?
Was this place actually haunted?
Thinking about that faceless corpse in the tub gave me the shivers.
"Hello? "
The vibration stopped.
The man's voice came through the speaker of my phone.
At the same time, I heard the same voice coming from the room below.
"Who the hell are you? " I whispered into the phone.
"How was my wife? Did you enjoy her body? "
The voice was cold and mocking.
My heart skipped a beat.
It really was her husband.
"What do you want? Where is Rosalie? "
I tried to keep my voice steady.
"Heh. She's in the tub, of course. "
The man laughed, a sound like dry leaves rubbing together.
The laughter echoed through the phone and the basement at the same time.
"You better get to her fast, Silas. Or she's going to drown. "
The line went dead.
"Damn it! " I cursed.
I turned on my phone's flashlight.
I didn't want to go back down there, but I had no choice.
I was almost certain the body in the tub belonged to the husband.
If he was dead, then the person on the phone had to be a ghost.
I passed a workbench in the storage area.
I grabbed a heavy pipe wrench from the dusty surface.
It probably wouldn't help against a spirit, but it made me feel better.
I held the light out in front of me and walked back into that room.
As soon as I entered, I saw someone standing tall in the bathroom.
I nearly jumped out of my skin.
Even though I was prepared, seeing a corpse stand up was too much.
My mental defenses shattered.
"You pathetic little rats... "
A raspy voice crawled out of the person's throat.
I gripped the wrench until my knuckles turned white.
I raised my flashlight to see into the bathroom clearly.
When the beam hit them, I realized it wasn't the faceless corpse.
It was Rosalie.
But she looked wrong.
She was soaking wet, dripping with that pungent chemical fluid.
Her eyes were rolled back into her head.
The pupils were gone, leaving only the terrifying whites of her eyes.
I gasped, the cold air burning my lungs.
She looked like she was possessed by something evil.
It had to be her husband's spirit.
"Heh... heh... "
A sound like cracking wood came from her throat.
She began to move toward me with jerky, mechanical steps.
She looked exactly like a vengeful spirit from an old ghost story.
That's everything available right now.
