Chapter 2
02
I glared at the man I had loved for five years.
He looked bored and indifferent.
"Is five hundred million enough? That should be worth ten of your mother's lives, right?"
He pulled out a checkbook and scribbled a number.
"Since I'm giving you the money, it's only fair I get something in return," he said with a smirk.
"Go like and share Faye's video."
"Your mom is in the ICU anyway; she won't see it. If the victim's daughter supports Faye, the hate comments will stop."
"The poor girl hasn't eaten for days because she's so upset," he added fondly.
"She cried to me for hours. I couldn't even comfort her."
Then, he snatched my phone right out of my hand.
If the media saw me liking that video, clearing my mom's name would be impossible.
I lunged for him, but he shoved me back hard.
My waist hit the corner of the table, and the pain sent me collapsing to the floor.
I watched in despair as Lexington liked and shared the video from my account.
"Lexington, I swear I'll make you and Faye pay for this!" I screamed.
"I'll make her pay in blood!"
Lexington dropped my phone and turned to leave.
He paused for a moment and looked back at me with cold, dark eyes.
"Misha, for the sake of our history, you should stay quiet."
"You know exactly what I'm capable of doing if you don't."
He walked out, leaving me sobbing on the floor.
I knew better than anyone how far he would go for the person he loved.
Five years ago, a stalker leaked private photos of me on the black market.
Lexington spent his entire fortune to wipe them out and protect my dignity.
Then, he used his connections to destroy that woman's life.
He made sure she suffered every single day until she begged for the end.
That was why everyone called him the ultimate husband.
But then he interviewed a fresh college graduate.
In less than six months, he became a different person.
During her interview, he asked her about employees suing for severance pay.
Faye had been incredibly aggressive.
"Those low-lifes shouldn't get a penny! They haven't done anything for the company, and they want a payout?"
"We should just leak fake evidence of them slacking off to blackball them from the industry forever!"
I remember telling Lexington she was too extreme and dishonest.
Lexington had agreed back then.
"You're right, honey. We follow the law here. People like her have no morals."
He rejected her application right then and fed me a strawberry.
"I'll make sure trash like that never gets near you again."
Yet, less than a month later, I saw her at the office.
She was leaning against him, looking like a helpless little rabbit.
