Janelle didn't text me once during her trip.

When I checked social media, I saw that Hudson had deleted that specific post.

I didn't know what game they were playing, and I didn't care.

Around noon, I was making lunch when Marcus messaged me.

He told me there was an opening for a lead role in a digital series.

I started my career in movies. Even though I only played supporting roles, I had a good reputation and a solid network.

But I threw it all away to be Janelle's shadow while she climbed the corporate ladder.

My career had flatlined because I kept saying no to work that would take me away from her.

Janelle's father hated me for it. Every time I saw him, he called me a loser with no future.

Once Janelle became a VP, his disdain only grew.

But that didn't stop him from asking me for money every single month.

"You're dating my daughter. It's your job to take care of me，" he'd say.

I endured it all for her. And in the end, I had nothing to show for it.

No career, no respect, and no love.

I used to ignore all those warnings about losing yourself in a relationship. Now I realized they were all true.

Love is fine, but it should never be your whole identity. You have to love yourself first.

I texted Marcus back immediately. I told him I'd take the job.

He called me within seconds, sounding thrilled. "We start shooting in two days. Pack your bags."

It was fast, but I needed the distraction.

As I was packing, the front door opened. Janelle was back.

She walked over to me, looking a bit awkward. She pulled a small, beautifully wrapped box from her bag.

"It's been a few days. I assume you're done being moody？"

I felt a flash of pity for her. She really thought this was just a game.

She didn't value me at all. She just missed her servant.

Janelle poured herself a glass of water and kept talking. "I've thought about it. I'll try to keep my distance from Hudson. Just stop being so paranoid."

I looked at the gift but didn't open it.

Right then, the doorbell rang.

It was Hudson.

"Hey, Janelle. You left your charger in my car."
