Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The day my husband helped his cancer-stricken childhood sweetheart lose her virginity, I left the divorce papers on the table and walked out.
Before I left, I commented on their photo―the one where their fingers were tightly intertwined―on social media.
"Let's get a divorce. I hope you two are happy together forever."
One minute later, he called me. "Sylvia, how did I marry someone as selfish as you? Do you really have the heart to let her die without a legacy?"
I gave a cold laugh and told him he wasn't my husband anymore, so it was none of my business.
But that was when he started to panic.
......
After signing my name on the divorce agreement, everything felt final.
I wiped my face and forced my vision to clear. I kept telling myself that I was finally giving up on Silas Haughton, the man I had loved and hated for so long.
All the bitterness and heartache from the past years began to fade the moment the ink dried.
Thinking of Silas now just felt pathetic.
Why should I be the one mourning here? He was probably already in bed with his precious Cynthia Rose, making up for lost time.
He never truly cared about me. After all these years, I should have been used to it. I let out a mocking laugh.
Still, a part of me felt indignant. Why should they get to betray me and just walk away scot-free?
With that thought, I decided to ruin Silas's mood. I pulled out my phone, found his profile, and left a comment under their intimate photo.
"Let's get a divorce. I hope you two are happy together forever."
"Now you and Cynthia don't have to keep making up pathetic excuses to jump into bed together."
Silas and I had been married for six years. We shared countless mutual friends and business contacts.
In the photo he posted, Cynthia's face was hidden. Many people actually thought it was me in the picture and were leaving comments about how cute we were.
Silas didn't correct them. He was using me as a shield to hide his affair with Cynthia. It made my skin crawl.
So, I decided to expose him right then and there. I wanted everyone to see his true face.
Less than a minute later, my phone rang. It was Silas, ready to cross-examine me.
"What the hell are you posting on social media? What are people going to think of me?"
"I already explained it to you. Cynthia doesn't have much time left. Can't you just fulfill her last wish?"
When I didn't respond immediately, his voice became even more vicious.
"Sylvia, how did I marry someone as selfish as you? Do you really have the heart to let her die without a legacy?"
His words made me feel physically ill.
He was my husband, yet he wanted to sleep with another woman to give her a child, and he expected me to just sit back and cheer them on?
And Cynthia's dying wish was just to sleep with Silas and lose her so-called virginity?
Who was he trying to kid?
Any lingering trace of affection I had for this marriage vanished the moment he finished that sentence.
I laughed coldly into the phone.
"You aren't my husband anymore. What you do is none of my concern."
"You can go and have ten kids with her for all I care. Oh, wait, I get it now. You wanted me to help raise your little bastards, didn't you?"
"Silas, I've never met a man as shameless as you."
I hung up before I lost control of the urge to scream. Spending even one more second talking to him felt like bad luck.
The reason for my divorce was as absurd as it gets. My husband wanted to help his cancer-ridden ex-girlfriend die without regrets by taking her virginity and giving her a child.
A week ago, Silas suddenly told me that Cynthia Rose was back in town.
My heart dropped when I heard her name. I gripped my phone tight, pretending to be casual as I asked why she was back.
I knew exactly how much Cynthia meant to Silas.
Silas bit his lip, his eyes turning red.
"She has terminal stomach cancer. She wants to spend her final days in her hometown."
At first, I was uncomfortable with Silas seeing her, but knowing she was dying, I tolerated him visiting her frequently.
But two weeks later, Silas came to me looking hesitant, saying he needed to discuss something important.
I had no idea what it was, but the serious look on his face gave me a terrible feeling.
After a moment of silence, he looked me in the eye and dropped a bomb.
"I'm going to have a baby with Cynthia."
"What?"
My mind went completely blank. My husband was telling me he wanted to father a child with another woman?
