Chapter 3

3 After Liam left, Sarah stood up and sized me up.

She was really hostile.

"I know about you, Liam mentioned. He married you after I left. Thank you for taking care of him for all these years." Sarah's voice was cold, as if she was Liam's wife.

"Don't mention it. I'm Liam's wife, by legal marriage," I snapped back.

Sarah sneered at my comment, then she smiled smugly.

Before I could figure out what was going on, she came barging into me, falling to the ground. Blood was running down her leg.

"Oh no, Olivia, I'm sorry, it's my fault I shouldn't have taken Liam, but you shouldn't push me! I have a baby in here." She was holding her stomach, looking so pitiful.

I just stood there, stunned.

Liam came back just then and saw everything.

"Olivia, what the hell? Have you lost your mind?" He didn't even listen to me, he just smacked me right across the face.

My face was burning.

He picked Sarah up and took her to the doctors. She was going into early labor!

Liam's eyes were bloodshot outside the OR. I was just watching it all from afar.

"Olivia, why did you push Sarah? Are you trying to kill her and her baby?" Liam was shouting.

I shook my head. "I didn't…"

"If anything happens to Sarah, I'll put you in jail myself!"

My heart dropped. He was ready to send me to prison for her.

Then, the doctors came out. Both Sarah and the baby were okay.

Liam sighed in relief. The crazy look in his eyes faded.

He looked at me, like he was sorry, and walked up to me, "I'm so sorry, Olivia, I got too worked up just now. I hurt you, didn't I?"

He reached to touch my face, but I flinched away.

Liam seemed embarrassed, then like he suddenly remembered, looked down at my stomach.

He had this excited look. "Olivia, you had the baby yesterday! We have a kid! I'm a dad!"

When I didn't say anything, he added, "I couldn't come because Sarah was in pain. You know, she has medical issues. But don't worry I promise, I'll be there for you and the baby from now on, I was thinking of calling him Leo.

Liam took my hand and tried to pull me but I didn't budge. Then he finally turned to me to look me in the eye.

I looked at my husband like a stranger and said, in a cold voice, "It doesn't matter now."

"You won't ever see the baby."

"You can use that name for someone else's kid."

Liam frowned and said, "What are you talking about? Don't be silly. He's my kid, of course, I can see him! Stop being crazy, let's go, just come with me."

My eyes started to water, "The baby died. He died after nine months because you weren't there to sign off on the surgery."

Liam looked like he got hit by a truck. He stumbled, catching himself on the wall.

He stared at me for what seemed like a while. Then he just looked defeated. He didn't say anything.

I don't know how I got back to my room.

Then Liam's mom burst into the room, she smacked me hard across the face.

"You couldn't even keep a baby safe? What good are you?"

"I don't know what my son saw in you."

"If he'd married Sarah, I'd be a grandma by now."

His mom kept hitting me, I was sweating from the pain.

A nurse came in and stopped her, I was finally safe.

From what she just said, Liam had not said one bad thing about Sarah. Instead, he was full of critiques for me.

That was the family I chose. What bad judgment.
