Chapter 1
The company was hosting a yacht party. I was standing on the deck, enjoying the view, when a sudden wave swept me into the deep, dark sea.
I kept screaming Silas's name. He rushed out of the cabin and dove in to save me.
But when I saw the bite mark on his chest, I nearly lost my mind.
"Silas, where did those red marks on your chest come from!"
Silas looked away, his eyes darting nervously. At that moment, a woman wearing his suit jacket stepped out of his cabin.
I knew that girl. She was Maisie Thorne, a college intern at our company.
It turned out that the man who promised me forever could also lose his heart to someone else.
My heart went cold. I turned away and called my brother, who was living abroad.
"Hey, it's me. I've decided to accept that offer to study in France."

Because I accidentally fell into the water, the yacht party ended early.
I stayed in the hospital for a week. Silas cancelled almost all his meetings to stay by my side.
However, my attitude toward him remained cold and distant.
"Elara, I've explained this a thousand times. It was Maisie's first time on a boat and she got sea-sick. She threw up all over me, so I had to take my shirt off."
I was a grown woman. I knew the difference between a bite mark and a mosquito bite.
I looked up at the gray sky, turning a deaf ear to his words.
"Elara, we've been in love for ten years. No one else can ever take your place in my heart."
Hearing those sweet words now only made me feel nauseous.
Just then, his phone rang.
"Silas, your little Maisie misses you!"
The room was deathly quiet. I heard every word of that flirtatious ringtone.
He scrambled to grab his phone and end the call. Then, he hurried back to my bedside.
"Elara, let me explain. Maisie is young and immature. She must have set that ringtone as a joke."
"If you don't like her, I'll transfer her to a different department as soon as we get back."
If Silas really wanted to cut ties with her, he wouldn't have added that last sentence.
Deep down, Maisie Thorne had already found a way into his heart.
"Silas, just call her back. Maybe there's something important happening at the office. I don't care."
I quietly closed my eyes, pushing him away.
Silas stood in the corner and returned the call.
His tone with Maisie sounded strictly professional, like a boss talking to a subordinate.
But the more he acted this way, the more it felt like he was hiding something.
"Maisie, go talk to Director Miller first. I'll be there soon."
Silas hung up and spoke to me softly.
"Elara, there's an issue with a contract. It's crucial for the company's IPO."
"I need to head back for a bit. I'll come back later to pick you up when you're discharged."
I couldn't tell if there was a real crisis or if it was just an excuse.
But whatever the truth was, it didn't matter anymore.
Silas didn't belong only to me anymore.
