Chapter 2
Chapter 2
When Wyatt returned to his office, the fury had not completely faded from his face.
Opening the door, he found Felicity sitting gracefully on his couch.
"Felicity? What are you doing here?"
"I… came to check on you. You've been working so hard on my behalf, so I brought some coffee," Felicity said with an awkward smile, a subtle flicker of tension hidden beneath her eyes.
"By the way… did you find Sonya?"
"Not yet."
Wyatt assumed she was simply worried about the legal fallout.
To soothe her anxiety, he spoke in a firm, reassuring tone.
"Don't worry, she can't run far. I still hold Stella's medical bills in my hands. Sonya cherishes that sister of hers too much to stay in hiding."
At the mention of Stella's name, Felicity's face stiffened noticeably.
"What is wrong?" Wyatt noticed her hesitation and frowned. "Did the police find something new?"
"N-no," Felicity quickly composed herself, forcing a faint smile. "I'm just worried… What if she really hides away and ruins the venture capital deal?"
Floating by the window, I watched her guilty expression, hatred coiling around my spirit like venomous vines.
Back then, my little sister Stella was only seventeen years old.
She had congenital heart disease and was lying in the ICU, desperately waiting for surgery funds.
Wyatt came to me, offering to wipe the slate clean regarding the corporate leak.
His only condition was that I serve the prison sentence in Felicity's place.
He claimed it was the debt I owed her.
If I refused, he would cut Stella's funding, leaving her to die.
Cornered and helpless, I walked into the penitentiary.
During the first two years, I still received letters from Stella.
She wrote that Wyatt had arranged a private room for her and that her surgery had gone well.
She wrote, "Sonya, come home soon. I miss you so much."
But starting in the second year, the letters grew sparse.
By the third year, they stopped entirely.
I wrote frantically and made phone calls, but everything was met with dead silence.
On the day I was released, I rushed straight to Mercy General Hospital.
The nurse on duty stared at me for a long time before whispering the truth.
"Stella Blake? She passed away a long time ago… Her condition suddenly deteriorated, and they couldn't resuscitate her."
I refused to believe it.
Her surgery had been a complete success, so how could she have suddenly collapsed?
It was only after my own death that I overheard the whispers of the hospice caregivers.
"A woman came to see her that day, and they got into a terrible fight in the room… I heard the poor girl screaming, 'You murderer! I'm going to tell my sister!'"
"When that woman came out, her face was pitch black, and within two days, the girl was gone."
"The hospital claimed she died from heart failure due to unpaid medication, but none of us bought it… Who dared to speak up, though?"
That woman was Felicity Stone.
Fearing that Stella would expose the truth, she silenced my sister forever.
She staged it as a medical death, keeping even Wyatt completely in the dark!
"Wyatt," Felicity's voice pulled me back to the present as she spoke with fake concern. "If we really can't find Sonya… shouldn't we prepare a backup plan? Find someone else to take the fall?"
Wyatt paused, his fingers tapping lightly against the mahogany desk.
"Someone else? The fewer people involved in this, the better…"
"I know, but the project cannot be delayed. We just need someone desperate for cash and easy to control. Pay them enough hush money. After all… it wouldn't be the first time we've done this."
Wyatt went silent for a few seconds before finally nodding.
"Fine. Go make the arrangements. Make sure it stays clean."
"Don't worry," Felicity smiled sweetly. "I will handle it perfectly."
Watching them casually decide to ruin another innocent life as a scapegoat, the frozen rage inside me cracked, spilling out blistering hatred.
To them, human lives were merely disposable tools.
Once used up, they were tossed aside.
If broken, they were simply replaced.
And what about my sister?
She was only seventeen; what crime had she ever committed?
Before my fury could settle, Wyatt's phone suddenly buzzed on the desk.
He answered it, and within seconds, his expression shifted drastically.
"What? The victim's family is holding a press conference? Demanding severe punishment for Sonya Blake?"
He stood up abruptly, grabbing his blazer while looking at Felicity.
"I need to head down to the precinct to keep the media from spinning out of control. Hurry on your end. Whether it is Sonya or someone else, this matter must be settled within three days!"
"Understood," Felicity replied, walking him to the door. "Drive safely."
The moment the door clicked shut, the warmth vanished from Felicity's face.
She walked back to the sofa, sat down, and quickly dialed a number.
"Hey, it's me. Wyatt is getting suspicious… Yes, he can never find out about Stella Blake."
"That girl has been dead for three years. Her bones are practically dust by now, so what are you scared of?"
"What if Sonya isn't dead? What if she's digging into the past…"
Felicity lowered her voice, her teeth gritted with malice.
"Whatever it takes, scrub every single trace from back then. The hospital staff, the caregivers, anyone who might know anything… clean them all up."
"Money is no object. I need this to be airtight."
