Chapter 1
1
On my birthday, I received a notification for a bank transfer of $13,140.
I was about to call my husband to ask where the money went when I accidentally scrolled past his intern's Instagram story.
"The best anniversary gift ever."
The post featured a screenshot of the $13,140 transfer and a photo of her holding hands with my husband.
I gave the post a like, and within seconds, my husband called me in a panic.
"Today is Celine's birthday. I only sent that to make her feel special. Don't be so sensitive!"
I burst out laughing and immediately froze all his credit cards.
As long as he doesn't touch my money, I don't care about anything else!

On my birthday, I waited for Holden at the restaurant for ten hours.
My heart went from excitement to a cold, dead calm.
As it got late, the golden sunset faded between the skyscrapers, and the stars took over the sky.
I pulled out my phone and sent a message to Holden, feeling completely drained.
"Holden, is this what you meant by spending the day with me?"
Right after I hit send, I got a text alert for a $13,140 transfer from our joint account.
I frowned. He didn't have time to text me or show up for dinner, but he had time to spend a fortune?
I was about to call him when I tapped on the Instagram icon by mistake.
A second later, I knew exactly where those thirteen thousand dollars had gone.
The newest post was from Holden's intern secretary.
It was a photo of them together and a screenshot of the $13,140 transfer.
The caption read, "The best romantic gift."
The man in the photo, the one who had been so generous with my money, was my husband who had been missing all day.
My eyes stung for a moment.
The two of them looked so close in the photo. If I weren't Holden's wife, I would have probably cheered for their beautiful love.
A bitter smile touched my lips.
My heart ached. I never thought Holden would be so bold about his affair.
But then again, did I really need more proof after three years of marriage?
To me, he was always cold or just polite.
We were nothing more than strangers sharing a marriage license.
I suddenly felt exhausted. I had chased him for so many years, and I didn't want to waste another second.
It was all meaningless.
These three years felt like a dream, a delusion I had forced myself to believe.
My mind drifted back to how it started.
Six years ago, I saw Holden on the street.
He was weaving through traffic just to save a few stray kittens.
That gentle, innocent look of his made my heart skip a beat instantly.
Sadly, I was stuck in a car and only saw him for a fleeting moment.
He probably never knew that a girl in the crowd had been thinking about him for a long time.
Later, through family connections, I married him. I thought it was fate, that we were meant to be.
Even though he treated me with nothing but distant respect, I didn't mind.
I kept telling myself that one day, he would fall in love with me.
But today, I finally realized the truth. He never forgot his first love.
That was why he was always so cold to me.
It was all so pathetic.
I looked at our chat history. The times he initiated a conversation were pathetic, just like his attitude toward me.
Is a man like this really worth my love?
I exited the chat and called a lawyer I knew, asking him to prepare divorce papers.
Then, I sent Holden one last text.
"Let's get a divorce."
Just to be spiteful, I left a like on his intern's post.
