3 Because of that promise, I stayed by her side for five years.

I watched her grow step by step. I watched her become the powerful CEO everyone respected.

Just as I was celebrating her success, Enzo appeared.

He quickly took up most of the space in Marianne's heart. By the time I realized what was happening, it was too late.

Enzo was a manipulative guy. He knew how to act cute and say exactly what she wanted to hear.

Meanwhile, I was just the boring guy who stayed home, cooked, and cleaned.

The way she looked at me gradually went cold. The love vanished, replaced by disgust.

Just when I thought our relationship was over, she told me she wanted to hold a wedding. She said she wanted to make up for the past.

Those words brought my love back to life. I foolishly thought Enzo was just a temporary distraction.

That was until I accidentally saw her phone. She was texting Enzo: "He's so boring. He smells like an old man. It's actually nauseating."

Then came the wedding photos of her and Enzo.

In all the years we had been married, we didn't have a single professional photo together.

In that moment, I completely gave up. I accepted the fact that Marianne no longer loved me.

Perhaps we should have never started five years ago. Our entire relationship was a mistake.

But it wasn't too late to turn back.

I moved into a small apartment I had bought secretly. I showered and had the best sleep of my life.

The next morning, I was woken up by my phone ringing.

I fumbled for it and hit answer.

The next second, Marianne's furious voice exploded through the speaker.

"Nate, where the hell are you? The wedding is about to start! Stop acting like a brat. There are so many people here. Are you trying to humiliate me and my family?"

Hearing her words, my disappointment deepened.

I didn't even know where I ranked in her heart anymore. Even her reputation was more important than me.

The wedding I had once looked forward to had turned into something rotten.

"Marianne, I made it clear yesterday. I want a divorce. You're the one who thought I was joking."

"If you want to be humiliated, then go ahead and let the whole Moretti family be humiliated with you."

"Nate! That's enough!" Marianne screamed my name. "I'm ordering you to get here right now. This is your last chance. Don't force me to use other methods."
