Chapter 2 One

“I believe the universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is in-probably biased toward the consciousness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it-or my observation of it-is temporary?”

This part of John Green's The Fault in Our Stars stuck in my mind from the time that I have to read it again, and again, and up until now, this was my favorite part, because finding your purpose of your existence is really hard, most of the people grew older without even knowing it, and when they discover it, it is already too late, and they don't have the chance to live a life with meaning, and I believe that what we see this world is more far than how we should see it, I believe that this world was created with many facets, many doors, that are waiting to be opened.

Well, I know that's crazy.

“Dad, when did you know that you exist for a reason?” I asked my Dad who's sitting at the driver's seat, Mom is beside her, they look into each other, Dad smiled and Mom just shook her head, I don't know why.

"You kept on asking very random questions, most of the time bizarre questions, last time you asked me about where soul go when they left your physical body, are you sure you're still sane?” we all laughed with that dumb question.

“Of course, Dad, what kind of question is that?” I fixed my hair that fell in front of my eyes; I have this natural chestnut hair, but my eyes is lavender, it’s actually cute, but most of the people that sees me with my real eyes calls me witch or monster.

I mean it's not usual to have this pair of eyes, but it's not impossible, those birdbrains, I hate that they are calling me names, who do they think they are, so I always wear my contacts, not to please them, bit to stop myself from punching their faces. Jeez, I stopped with that thought and just make myself comfortable with my spot. I don’t have to make myself mad just because of their trashy attitudes.

“So, Dad?” I asked again, "How would you know? You told me once that you found your purpose, that's why you're still alive up to this moment, so tell me how, I want to know why.”

“You got your Mom's stubbornness.” Mom tap his shoulder lightly and just shook her head and looked at me as if saying that it’s not true. “Well, I don’t exactly know how to tell you this, you see, people have different perspective in life, some took it seriously and some are not, some live their lives as if its their last, and some live as if its their first, it really depends by that person, you can’t cage them with what’s your idea about existence, as for me, I found my purpose when I met your Mom, and we had you and your brother.” He looked at me at the rear view, and immediately turn his gaze to the road again, “If you have something or someone who you want to spend your life, or you thought you can’t live without them around, if you’re happy with what you are doing, if that make you feel contented, then you found your purpose.”

I nod, that make sense, I love his idea of existence, and I love how he can easily explain things to me, I tend to ask too many questions as if I wanted to know something deeper, but hell, I had no Idea what the heck is that.

“Anyway, how many hours do I need to wait, Levi’s school is so far, that explains why he's coming home once a month, if I would him, I’ll just transfer to other schools nearby.” I hate long trips like this, I want to just sit in the corner. I’m not a fan of long rides like this, it makes me feel dizzy, real bad.

“This school is where you both belong, stop whining and just read your books, it will take another hour to get there, so entertain yourself first.” Mom said, I just sighed and nod before wearing my airpods and continue reading my book again.

“Mom, where's Niki?” I heard a faint voice not so far away. “She's sleeping again? That sleepyhead, I'll wake her up.”

I can't move my body, I'm still sleepy, I want to go back to sleep, but I felt a hand shaking my shoulder, "Hey, sleepyhead, wake up, you're already here." I slowly opened my eyes, Levi's smiling face welcomed me, "Not changing at all? Come on, I'll bring your baggage to your dorm.” I yawned and nod, although I'm still lazy to stand up, fortunately, I still did.

I saw a middle aged man, he's talking with my parents, his skin is pale as snow, but his hair is black as the sky in the night, I was taken aback when I saw his eyes, it’s same as mine, it's fascinating seeing someone with the same pair of eyes like yours.

“This is Letisha, she’s our youngest.” Mom introduced me to the man in front of us, the man looked at me, he's smiling, but it's different, I can't fathom, it's very familiar, there is a tingling sensation in my stomach, I don't know if it's excitement of nervous, but why? I don't even know this man, I met him for the first in my whole life.

“Interesting." He said, that made my forehead crease, "I see, welcome Nikita." Even how he say my name, different, "I finally had the chance to meet you, I heard a lot about you from your Mom and Dad.” He offered his hand to shake hands, I accepted it, his hands are warm, "Your parents used to be my favorite students, and I'm happy that their daughter is here now, I'm Esteban.”

I nod and release a small smile, “Thank you, nice to meet you.”

He smiled, “Welcome Nikita Aviana, Welcome to Zodiac High.”
