Chapter 3

"Since you're so badly injured, you should hand your invitation for the Charity Gala over to Zane. Consider it compensation," Maya demanded, crossing her arms without a trace of warmth.

I scoffed. "Why should I? That belongs to me."

"You were only treated like the family heir before because of a clerical mix-up at birth. People only invited you because of that title," Maya said coldly.

"You've occupied his place long enough. It's time to return what belongs to him!"

"Exactly! If you hadn't been swapped at birth, would you have enjoyed all those luxury years?" Sonya backed her up, her lip curling with contempt.

"Do you have any idea how much Zane suffered in your place?"

Zane's eyes rimmed with red. "It's fine... I don't need anything."

He coughed weakly a few times, instantly making Sonya and Maya glare at me with murder in their eyes.

I stared at the two women who once meant the world to me.

Now, they couldn't wait to strip me bare and hand everything to Zane.

I let out a soft laugh, laced with relief and ridicule. "Fine. Give the invitation to him."

Sonya and Maya froze, clearly caught off guard by how easily I conceded.

Sonya narrowed her eyes with suspicion. "Are you serious? You're not trying to trick us, are you?"

"Trick you? Why would I bother?" I replied coldly.

"Besides, isn't my invitation already in Zane's hands anyway?"

Zane's expression instantly stiffened, his eyes darting away.

Of course he was guilty.

The moment the formal invitation arrived at the estate, he had immediately posted it on social media to brag, desperate to flaunt his status as the true heir.

What they didn't know was that the gala never invited the family.

They invited me personally.

I couldn't wait to see how humiliating his grand entrance would turn out.
