Chapter 1

Chapter 1

On the night of my birthday, the college girl my husband was keeping sent me a photo.

In the picture, she was lying topless in his arms. The flush on her face hadn't even faded yet.

"He loves me. Why do you insist on holding on? "

I looked at the photo and forwarded it to my husband without any expression.

"Is this what you wanted? "

"Fine. I'll make it happen for both of you. "

He forgot that our engagement was something he had begged for, over and over again.

Since he wants freedom so badly, I'll give it back to him.

……

It was midnight, and Brooks Miller still wasn't home.

I picked up my phone and dialed his number.

The first time, no one answered.

The second time.

The third time.

It wasn't until the seventh call that he finally picked up.

Before I could speak, Brooks's impatient voice rang out.

"Are you done yet, Everly?! "

"You're so annoying! "

The background music was a deafening beat.

But it wasn't nearly as piercing as his cold words.

I took a deep breath, my hand tightening around the phone.

"It's midnight. Don't forget what you promised me! "

My tone was flat, but my heart was far from calm.

Brooks and I had already signed our marriage papers; we were only missing the ceremony.

But at this critical moment, he had fallen for someone else. He refused to come back to the home we shared.

I knew I couldn't stop him.

So, I made one request.

I told him to give me one month. During this month, we would live together just like before.

If, after a month, he still didn't remember our past or felt nothing for me, I would file for divorce.

Yes, Brooks had amnesia.

A car accident after we got our license had caused a head injury.

He forgot everything, including his feelings for me.

Then, Jade Sommers appeared.

Brooks fell for her instantly.

He brought a naive college student into the world of the elite, buying her every luxury brand imaginable.

He spoiled her to the extreme.

Jade was terrifyingly manipulative.

I don't know how she got my social media, but she constantly flaunted their daily life to me.

In the dead of night, she would send me long messages and photos.

"Everly, Brooks and I are truly in love. Please stop clinging to him! "

"He doesn't love you at all. Why won't you let go?! "

"Can he really be happy if he's tied down by a family arrangement?! "

A family arrangement?

Jade didn't know that in my marriage with Brooks, I was the passive one.

He was the one who had chased me.

Our families had been friends for generations, and Brooks and I were childhood sweethearts.

If it weren't for that accident, we would have been happy forever.

But reality doesn't have 'ifs'.

Hearing that I was willing to divorce, Brooks hesitated. For the sake of his future with Jade, he endured his disgust for me and agreed.

I had two conditions.

First, he had to be home by midnight every night.

Second, during this month, he couldn't be intimate with any other woman.

If he couldn't do that, I would never agree to the divorce.

But only a few days had passed.

"Everly, get this straight. You're my wife on paper, but I don't love you. What right do you have to demand anything from me?! "

On the other end of the line, Brooks sneered. "Don't you know? Every time I come home and see your face, I feel disgusted. "

He didn't care at all about using such cruel words.

He didn't care if I was hurt.

I grit my teeth, forcing myself not to lose my composure.

A woman's dissatisfied, whiny voice came through the speaker.

"Brooks, if you keep talking on the phone, I'm going to be really mad! "

"Come on, three shots as a penalty. Drink them, and I'll forgive you! "

It was Jade.

Then, Brooks's voice turned incredibly doting, with a softness I had never heard. "Fine, fine. I got it, my little jealous brat. "

After that, his tone turned icy again.

"Anything else? If not, stop bothering me! "

I said coldly, "Brooks, don't forget our deal. Either you come home now, or I come get you. "

"Otherwise, you can forget about ever getting that divorce! "

There was a silence for thirty seconds before Brooks cursed viciously. "You really are a piece of work! "
