Chapter 2

The city was a shrine to Ethan and Sarah.

Giant screens in Times Square played slow-motion videos of them laughing, holding hands.

Magazine covers screamed "Decade of Devotion!"

Passersby would stop, point, smile at the images.

"They're so perfect," Sarah heard a young woman sigh to her friend near a newsstand.

Perfect.

Sarah felt a bitter taste in her mouth.

She remembered Ethan, down on one knee on a yacht in the Hamptons, the sunset painting the sky.

"Sarah Miller, you are my everything. My compass, my truth. There will never be anyone else. Only you, forever."

His voice had been thick with emotion, tears shining in his eyes.

She had believed him. Every word.

Now, those words echoed, hollow and mocking.

The FIRS arrangements were moving quickly, discreetly.

Dr. Sharma helped, smoothed the path.

But as Sarah prepared to vanish, Chloe Vance began her campaign.

It started subtly. An "accidentally" forwarded email from Ethan to Chloe, filled with private jokes Sarah didn't understand.

Then, the photos started.

Blocked numbers. Burner phones.

Chloe and Ethan, in his car, at a restaurant booth, laughing intimately.

Then, more explicit.

A close-up of Ethan's hand on Chloe's thigh under a table.

A video, short, blurry, but unmistakably them, kissing in a hotel elevator.

Each image, each clip, was a fresh stab.

Chloe was relentless, a silent tormentor.

Sarah deleted them, blocked the numbers, but new ones always appeared.

She tried to focus on the logistics of her disappearance.

Bank accounts being quietly emptied.

Personal effects sorted, some stored with Anya, most destined to be left behind.

Her apartment, their shared penthouse, felt like a gilded cage.

Ethan was a master of deception.

He'd come home, full of wedding plans, excitement in his voice.

"Baby, the caterers just sent the final menu. It's incredible. You'll love it."

He' d kiss her, a loving fiancé.

Sarah would smile, play her part, while her stomach churned.

The observation window. Chloe's smirk. Ethan's betrayal.

It played on a loop in her mind.

This wasn't just an affair. It was a performance of deceit, a public lie built on her trust.

Chloe's messages became more brazen.

"He says your hair smells like his mother's. Not in a good way."

"Last night was amazing. He couldn't get enough."

Sarah's resolve to leave hardened with each taunt.

She was not just escaping a cheating fiancé.

She was escaping a web of lies so vast, so public, it threatened to suffocate her.

The city adored their love story.

Sarah knew the truth.

And the truth was setting her free, in the most radical way possible.

That's everything available right now.
