Chapter 1

In the third year of our marriage, I was diagnosed with leukemia.

Cyrus didn’t hesitate for a second to donate his stem cells to save my life.

Yet less than an hour after the surgery, he cheated on me.

Lying in my hospital bed, I opened the security camera app on my phone like usual, only to find two bodies tangled together on our matrimonial bed.

The gorgeous young woman cradled Cyrus’s face in her hands, asking if he would ever marry her.

Cyrus denied it, but the next second, seeing the tears spilling from her eyes, he panicked and leaned in to kiss them away.

In that single heartbeat, I knew.

Our love had reached its bitter end.

01.

Right after the surgery, I mentioned that I was feeling a bit cold.

Cyrus told me there was a brand-new plush blanket at home and said he would run back to grab it for me.

Looking at the tenderness on his pale, exhausted face, I was convinced I had married the right man.

When I got sick, Cyrus never pulled away. Instead, he actively got tested to see if he was a match.

Miraculously, he was a perfect match, and we went into surgery on the very same day.

Never in my wildest nightmares did I imagine he would betray me during a quick trip home for a blanket.

Through the high-definition security camera feed, I only meant to call out through the intercom to tell him to grab one for himself too.

Instead, I watched him tangled up with a young girl right on our bed.

Hanging right above the headboard was our wedding portrait.

On the day we took that photo, he held me tight, promising that I was the most beautiful woman alive and that he would never tire of looking at my face.

Now, he was pouring sweat over another woman’s body.

As they neared the end, the woman spoke softly.

“Cyrus, will you ever marry me?”

I saw Cyrus freeze, instinctively answering, “I have a wife.”

The next second, tears spilled down her cheeks. Cyrus panicked, leaning in to tenderly kiss away every tear.

At that moment, my heart turned into cold ash.

I lifted a trembling hand to wipe my tears, but accidentally hit the intercom button. The home receiver began to ring endlessly.

Yet Cyrus remained entirely focused on comforting the weeping beauty in his arms.

When she whispered an apology, “I’m sorry, Cyrus... I was being too greedy,” he let out a soft sigh.

He gently carried her to the bathroom, washed her down with immense care, and only then finally picked up my call.

“What’s wrong, Nora? Are you in pain?”

His voice was as gentle as ever.

The vivid images of him making love to another woman flashed uncontrollably in my mind.

My knees gave out, and I crashed straight off the hospital bed onto the floor.
