Chapter 2

2

In my previous life, the situation had been exactly the same.

After I fell and saw the blood, I called Cillian immediately.

He dropped everything and rushed to me, but he missed Daisy's call.

That led to the death of Daisy's mother because she didn't get help in time.

At the funeral, almost everyone looked at me with disgust.

Even after I, the true heiress, returned home, the only person who had ever loved me―my mother―sighed repeatedly.

"Elara, I know you resent Daisy for taking your place for ten years. But she didn't do it on purpose, did she?"

My father, who had always adored Daisy, snorted coldly.

"What's the point of talking to a child who grew up in the gutter? Hasn't Daisy stepped aside enough for her? She even gave Cillian up to you!"

My heart twisted with a sharp, stabbing pain.

That was right. Cillian Rhodes was just another thing the fake heiress, Daisy, had "given" to me.

They were childhood sweethearts.

If I hadn't suddenly appeared, they would have married and had a perfect child.

They would have lived a happy, fairy-tale life together.

In everyone's eyes, I was the villain who used schemes to steal Cillian.

At Daisy's birthday party, I was drunk and somehow ended up in Cillian's room.

He had been drugged, and we spent a confused night together.

The next morning, no matter how much I protested my innocence, no one believed me.

Later, I was found to be pregnant.

Out of desperation, Cillian married me.

Shortly after the wedding, I lost that child.

That day, Cillian smoked a whole cigarette in silence before comforting my tearful self.

"We can always have another one."

That was the first time I thought that maybe, just maybe, he liked me a little.

We even had a second child together.

I truly hoped we would grow old together.

Until the death of Daisy's mother shattered everything.

When Cillian forced those six bottles of toxins into me, I still begged him.

"Cillian, our son is innocent. Don't hurt him..."

But he was manic as he picked up our son and slammed him onto the floor.

He roared, "Elara Thorne, this is all your fault! You should never have come back!"

"I want you to feel the pain of losing your closest kin!"

In that moment, my heart shattered into a million pieces.

I screamed at the top of my lungs, "He's your child too!"

Cillian only sneered, "Are you even sure this child is mine?"

As I suffocated, I lunged toward my son, who was bleeding from the mouth.

But I didn't even have the strength to reach him.

Finally, I closed my eyes in a sea of resentment.
