Chapter 3 Evan's lips grazed her neck
Evan's lips grazed her neck, sending shivers down Aila's spine. She was frozen in place, trapped between the guilt of what she was doing and the undeniable pull of desire that clouded her mind. Her body responded to his touch before her brain could process what was happening.
"We shouldn't," she whispered, her voice weak and shaky, though she didn't pull away. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, as if it was trying to beat its way out of her body.
Evan's breath was warm against her skin, his hand firm on her waist, pulling her even closer. "You've said that before," he murmured, his voice dripping with temptation. "But you're still here."
Aila squeezed her eyes shut, trying to block out the rising flood of emotions she couldn't handle. "It's wrong," she insisted, but her resolve was crumbling with each passing second.
Evan cupped her chin, gently tilting her face up so she was forced to look into his eyes. "Do you want me to stop?" he asked, his voice soft, yet filled with dangerous allure. "Tell me to stop, and I will."
The silence that hung between them was suffocating. Aila knew this was her moment to walk away, to end the madness before it spiraled even further out of control. But the words refused to come out. She stared into Evan's eyes, seeing the hunger there, the desire that mirrored her own hidden feelings.
"I... I don't know," she stammered, her voice barely a whisper. Every nerve in her body was alight with the tension between them, her heart and mind warring with each other, tearing her apart.
Evan's fingers traced the line of her jaw, down to her throat, where her pulse raced beneath his touch. He leaned in closer, his lips just inches from hers, as if waiting for permission, waiting for her to make the final decision.
"Tell me what you want, Aila," he murmured against her lips. "I'll give you anything you ask for."
The temptation was overwhelming, drowning out the small voice of reason that had been screaming at her from the start. She had spent so long pretending to be the perfect wife, to fulfill all of Darian's expectations. But standing there with Evan, she felt something she hadn't in a long time-desire. Not just for physical intimacy, but to be seen, to be wanted.
Aila swallowed hard, feeling the weight of her choice pressing down on her. She could stop this. She could push him away and pretend it had never happened. But the truth was, she didn't want to stop. Not anymore.
Instead of answering, she closed the gap between them, pressing her lips to his in a desperate kiss that shattered the thin walls of restraint she had been clinging to. Evan responded instantly, his hands moving to her waist, pulling her flush against him as their kiss deepened. The heat between them was undeniable, a fire that had been simmering for too long, now blazing out of control.
Aila knew this was a mistake. She knew that what she was doing would destroy everything if it ever came to light. But in that moment, with Evan's arms around her, she didn't care. She wanted to lose herself in him, if only for a little while.
Evan's hands roamed over her body, his touch igniting a trail of heat wherever he went. Aila's breath hitched as his lips traveled down her neck, his fingers slipping under the hem of her shirt, teasing the sensitive skin beneath. Her mind screamed at her to stop, but her body refused to listen, arching into his touch, craving more.
As Evan guided her towards the bed, Aila's thoughts became a blur of sensations. There was no going back now. She had crossed a line, and there was no way to undo it. The guilt gnawed at her even as she gave in to the desire that had been building between them for so long.
When they finally came together, it was a whirlwind of passion and desperation, a tangle of limbs and whispered breaths in the dark. Aila felt like she was drowning in him, losing herself completely in the forbidden pleasure of his touch. For a moment, all the worries, all the guilt, disappeared, and there was only the heat between them, the overwhelming need to feel something-anything.
---
Hours later, Aila lay beside Evan, her heart still racing, her body exhausted but her mind spinning. The room was quiet except for the sound of their breathing. Reality was slowly creeping back in, and with it came the crushing weight of what they had done.
Aila stared up at the ceiling, her thoughts a chaotic mess. What had she done? How could she have let it go this far?
Evan rolled onto his side, propping himself up on one elbow to look at her. "You okay?" he asked, his voice low and surprisingly tender.
Aila didn't answer right away. She didn't know how to answer. Was she okay? No, not really. But she also wasn't sure she regretted it, and that terrified her more than anything.
"I don't know," she admitted after a long pause, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know what to feel anymore."
Evan reached out, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "You don't have to figure it all out right now," he said softly. "But you don't need to feel guilty, Aila. I won't let anyone hurt you."
Aila turned her head to look at him, her chest tight with the weight of her emotions. "But I've already hurt someone, Evan. I've hurt Darian."
Evan's expression hardened slightly at the mention of his brother's name, but he didn't say anything for a moment. "Darian's not the saint you think he is," Evan finally said, his voice laced with bitterness. "He doesn't appreciate what he has. He treats you like an object, something to show off. You deserve better than that."
Aila bit her lip, her mind swirling with confusion. She didn't want to admit it, but part of her knew Evan was right. Darian had never seen her as anything more than a trophy wife, something to flaunt to his friends and colleagues. But that didn't make this right. It didn't make her betrayal any easier to swallow.
"I still shouldn't have done this," Aila said quietly, more to herself than to Evan. "This isn't who I am."
Evan leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. "Maybe it's time you stopped trying to be who everyone expects you to be and start being who you *want* to be."
Aila closed her eyes, feeling the weight of his words settle over her. Maybe he was right. Maybe she had spent too long trying to live up to everyone else's expectations, especially Darian's. But what did that mean for her now? Could she really walk away from everything she had known, from the life she had built with Darian, to pursue something with Evan? Could she live with herself if she didn't?
The questions swirled in her mind, but there were no easy answers.
