Chapter 1

Seattle, the Sinclair estate.

"Luna, are you sure you want to move out here and live with Grandma?"

This was a call from Florence, Italy.

I gripped my phone tightly and turned my gaze toward the window.

Today was Zachary Sinclair's engagement party.

The Sinclair villa was buzzing with voices, and fireworks exploded in the night sky.

Everyone was celebrating his happiness.

"Yes, Grandma. You're getting older, and I worry about you. Besides, Zachary is getting married, and I can't keep bothering him."

Saying his name hid an endless amount of bitterness in my heart.

But I had no choice.

When my parents died in a car crash during my childhood, everyone kicked me while I was down.

Only Zachary held my hand and acted like a spoiled child to his parents.

"I want this sister."

With just one sentence, Zachary's doting father allowed me to stay and protected me.

Growing up, I was given the Sinclair last name and raised right by Zachary's side.

When I was scared, he would tell me stories.

When I was bullied, he would stand up for me without hesitation.

It was safe to say that all my beautiful childhood memories were given to me by Zachary.

But now, everything had changed.

"Alright, alright. As long as you have that in your heart, Grandma will wait for you here. Zachary treats you so well, so make sure you let him know before you leave."

The call ended, and outside, the drones had already formed the silhouettes of tonight's main characters.

It was the image of Zachary and Hailey.

The two of them leaned against each other happily in the sky.

The sight forcefully drew tears from my eyes.

I remembered the first time I saw a drone show.

Zachary had put it on just to make me happy, and the performance had lasted all night.

It let the outside world know just how favored the Sinclair family's foster daughter was.

Tonight, the drones would also fly all night, but the main character was no longer me.

The happiness outside blended with the cheers of the crowd.

My phone slipped from my hand and crashed to the floor.

I stubbornly wiped the tears from my eyes, trying to erase a scar that shouldn't exist.

On such a good day, Zachary hadn't come to find me.

He was probably afraid I would ruin things.

After all, when I turned eighteen, I had confessed my feelings to him in a moment of madness, only to be harshly scolded.

He had said, "Luna, we grew up together, and I treat you as my own sister. I never thought you'd have such disgusting thoughts. You make me sick."

The word 'disgusting' pierced me so deeply that my fingers trembled, driving me to total despair.

I had grabbed his shoulders tightly and questioned him.

"I'm only three years younger than you! You've been so good to me my whole life. Do you really not like me even a little bit?"

When I said those words, I stared dead at his face, terrified of missing even the slightest emotion.

But there was nothing except disgust.

Zachary didn't like me.

In fact, he had started to despise me because of that confession.

I dropped my hands in despair as tears fell from my face.

"Why?"

"Are you done throwing a fit, Luna? I said I am your brother, and I can only ever be your brother. I don't want to hear this a second time."

Zachary left with a cold face, and I stood under the cold shower for the entire night.

I wanted to sober up and face reality.

But the more sober I got, the more it hurt.

I still liked him so much that it drove me crazy.

Now, two years had passed.

To completely kill off my hopes, Zachary was getting married.

He didn't even let me attend his engagement party.

It was truly ridiculous.

I sat in the corner of my room and cried all night long.

The lively noise outside also lasted all night.

Everyone was cheering and sending blessings, so who could possibly hear my cries of sorrow?

"Miss, it's time to come down for breakfast."

When the maid came up the next day, she found me flushed bright red.

I was running a severe fever.

After freezing all night, my temperature was so high that my consciousness was slipping.

"Miss! What's wrong with you?"
