Chapter 2
2 I watched the door slam, my hand clenching into a fist before I forced myself to relax.
Gotta admit, Liam’s "hero" act was impressive. If I weren’t his girlfriend, that is.
“Hey…Chloe,” Ben awkwardly coughed. The remaining people in the room exchanged glances before Ben tried to break the tension. “Liam can be a little…you know. We were just playing, you wanna play another round?”
“No thanks, I don’t wanna ruin the fun. You guys have a good time,” I forced a smile, waving goodbye as I left the karaoke room.
Today was me and Liam’s third anniversary.
He used "working late" as an excuse to do sake bombs with some other girl. It was totally inappropriate, and those "bro" friends of his were encouraging it C no one seemed to remember he had a girlfriend.
Man, I was seriously lacking in the self-respect department.
I got home, looked at the big dinner I’d cooked, and I just lost it. I tossed the whole thing into the trash.
That’s when Liam texted, “Let’s not make a big deal out of tonight. You can be a little dramatic. Apologize to Tiffany tomorrow.”
No explanation, just blame and a demand. And some passive-aggressive nonsense about me being “dramatic.”
When did he start treating me like this, just running me down whenever we had a disagreement?
I did some soul searching.
And realized, me and Liam never had an equal relationship.
Since I chased him first, he’d always treated me like I was some lesser being.
For him, I learned to cook, to keep my temper in check, to be the chill, supportive girlfriend.
But what had he done for me?
Verbal put-downs, a dismissive attitude, and flirting with other girls.
I’d told him so many times how uncomfortable I was with him and Tiffany, but he just brushed it off.
I scrolled through our texts. I was always the first one to message him. I’d send paragraphs, and he’d reply with a few words.
I finally realized, this three-year relationship was just me loving him, not the other way around.
I read his message again and made up my mind. I texted, “We’re done,” and blocked his number.
