Chapter 3

3 My best friend, Sarah, called as I was packing a suitcase.

“Chloe, are you okay?”

“Why wouldn't I be?” I paused. “Did Liam call you?”

Sarah didn’t deny it. “He said you were being dramatic, asked me to talk you down. Something about Tiffany?”

Sarah had run into Liam and his group at the karaoke place. She mentioned Tiffany was there too, which was how I found out that Liam's "late work" was actually a lie.

“It’s not about being dramatic.”

“Huh?”

“I broke up with him, Sarah. For real.”

I always thought walking away from a three-year relationship would be painful, but saying it just felt like a weight off my shoulders.

Maybe subconsciously, I knew Liam wasn’t as into me as I was into him. Maybe I'd been preparing for this since I realized he was flirting with Tiffany.

Now I was finally done.

I hadn't planned on staying under the same roof with Liam after the breakup. I just packed a few things and crashed at Sarah's. Then I started looking for a place close to work.

Finally, after a week, I found a small apartment near my office. I moved in, and during that time, Liam didn't even try to contact me.

I figured he’d accepted it.

But because I had to go back and grab the rest of my things, I unblocked his number and texted to let him know I’d be there. I just didn't want him thinking I was some burglar.

He didn’t reply. I didn’t care, and I blocked him again.
