Chapter 3

So... it was just a free gift.
Selina's intentions were crystal clear.
I didn't say a word and hung up the phone.
I put my phone down and started looking for my documents.
Silas appeared behind me out of nowhere.
"Why are you looking for your passport?"
My hand jerked, but I lied without changing my expression.
"I'm going abroad with you for business next month. Just checking if everything is ready."
Silas used to take me everywhere he went.
But this time, he hesitated.
"Next month... Selina is coming with me."
Seeing my cold face, he quickly added more.
"But I've arranged for you to go to Europe to relax. We both need some space to cool down."
No wonder he was suddenly sending me away.
He was afraid I would ruin his romantic getaway with Selina.
If this were the old me, I would have cried and screamed, demanding he choose me.
But now, I just nodded and slipped my documents into my bag.
Silas finally noticed something was wrong.
"You always keep a photo of us in your bag. Where is it?"
Our relationship was about to end.
There was no point in carrying that photo around anymore.
I didn't answer him. Instead, I changed the subject.
"I need to rest. Was there anything else?"
He suddenly remembered why he came in.
"Where is my honey water?"
Silas had stomach issues, and the doctor suggested he drink honey water.
For five years, I had made him a fresh glass every hour, making sure it was at the perfect temperature.
It was a lot of work, but I never missed a day.
I gave him a lazy excuse.
"I just got out of the hospital. I'm not feeling well."
It wasn't a lie.
I had only rested for one day after losing the baby, and the stress was taking its toll.
My lower abdomen started to throb with pain.
My face was pale, and Silas looked worried.
He lifted me onto the bed.
"You really are something. You failed to protect our baby, and now you're acting out!"
"Fine. I'll stay and look after you tonight."
Just then, his phone rang.
I couldn't help but see the screen.
The caller ID said "Selina Baby."
He answered it immediately. Selina's sobbing voice filled the room.
"Silas, I hurt my hand. Can you come see me? Please..."
"I'm so stupid, I don't even know how to check into the hospital."
Silas didn't speak right away. He looked at me, torn.
I clutched my stomach, cold sweat dripping down my forehead.
I forced the words out of my mouth.
"Just go."
He looked conflicted, but he still made his choice.
"I'm sorry, Sonya. Selina just got back. I'm worried about her."
"I'll call a doctor for you. I'll be back soon."
Seconds later, I heard the door slam shut.
I curled into a ball, my heart feeling completely numb.
This wasn't the first time he had abandoned me for her. I should have been used to it.
A while later, the family doctor arrived.
He looked at me with pure disgust. He was only there because Silas ordered him to be.
"You've been with Mr. Thorne for five years, and he still won't even acknowledge you in public. Are you really dumb enough to believe his pillow talk?"
"The Winters family is bankrupt. You aren't even worthy of being his maid!"
"Miss Vance is his equal. If you had any dignity, you'd pack your bags and get lost."
That's everything available right now.
