Chapter 3

Kayden Justice POV:

The automatic glass doors of the ScentNova tower parted silently, welcoming me into a cavernous, marble-clad atrium.

The security protocol here was military-grade, the air scrubbed clean of all stray biological scent markers by commercial-grade ionizing filters.

Before I could reach the security desk, the private executive elevator chimed.

A cluster of senior executives stepped out, flanking a tall figure in a bespoke jet-black three-piece suit.

Adrian Wilson walked with the effortless dominance of an apex predator.

He wore no restrictive neck gear, yet as his polar cedar scent rolled across the polished stone, it lacked the crushing brutality typical of S-Class Alphas.

The moment his scent reached me, it softened, washing over my senses like a calm, crisp winter breeze.

Several lower-tier Alpha managers in the lobby bowed their heads instinctively under the residual weight of his presence, but I remained upright, meeting his gaze.

Adrian crossed the floor, his piercing ice-gray eyes locking onto mine through his rimless gold-framed glasses.

"Miss Justice," he said, extending a broad, warm hand. "Welcome to your new headquarters."

"Mr. Wilson," I said, placing my palm in his. "I will reserve judgment on the empire until I see the compute clusters."

His fingers were dry and warm, their calluses grazing the back of my hand with a brief, electric friction.

I withdrew my hand smoothly.

A subtle twitch of amusement touched the corner of Adrian's lips as he stepped aside.

"Lead the way."

We stepped into the private executive elevator together.

The enclosed glass cabin concentrated the polar cedar notes, wrapping around me in an inescapable, pure aura.

The back of my neck prickled with sudden warmth—a pure physiological reaction of an Omega encountering a top-tier compatible Alpha.

Without breaking eye contact with the floor indicator, I raised my hand and adjusted my neck cuff dial from Level IV to Level V with a distinct mechanical click.

The steel-blue alloy snapped tighter, locking my pores down completely.

Adrian heard the click.

His Adam's apple shifted slightly, his jaw tightening for a split second before he took a deliberate half-step backward, creating clear physical space between us.

"My apologies," Adrian said, his voice dropping into a low, controlled register. "I should have dialed back my presence."

"Professional boundaries make for cleaner code, Mr. Wilson," I replied coolly.

"Understood."

The elevator doors opened onto Sub-Level 3, revealing the core research laboratory behind pressurized airtight glass.

Dozens of liquid-cooled supercomputer racks hummed in synchronized blue light, offering compute capacity three times greater than Apex's entire infrastructure.

I walked straight to the primary terminal, my fingers dancing across the mechanical keys as I pulled up their architectural topology.

"Your concurrent message broker creates a 0.02-second latency spike during peak transaction loads," I said, pointing at the throughput graphs. "That will cause catastrophic slippage on Meridian Capital's high-frequency trading desk."

Two senior system architects behind Adrian stiffened, ready to argue, but Adrian raised a single finger to silence them.

"Can you fix it?" Adrian asked, his eyes locked onto my screen.

"Give me thirty days of full operational control over this lab," I said, turning to face him. "And I will compress that latency to zero."

"Done," Adrian replied instantly. "As of this moment, you are the commanding officer of this facility."

"One question, Mr. Wilson."

His eyebrows lifted a fraction. "Ask it."

"How did you know the architecture was mine?" I said. "My name appears on none of Apex's public filings. On paper I am an administrative lead who handles client relations."

A beat of silence. The blue rack light moved across his face.

"Because I read the code, Miss Justice. Not the filings."

"Whose copy did you read?"

Something shifted behind the rimless glasses—not evasion exactly, but the deliberate closing of a door he fully intended to open later.

"That is a longer story," Adrian said. "And I do intend to tell you it. Just not today."

I held his gaze for another second, then let it go.

I nodded, plugged my encrypted flash drive into the terminal port, and began uploading my proprietary yield curvature framework.

As the lines of code compiled across the high-resolution monitors, I knew the blade was finally sharp.

"A pleasure doing business with you, Mr. Wilson."

"The pleasure is entirely mine, Kayden."

Adrian Wilson POV:

I stood three paces behind her, watching the blue monitor glow trace the sharp, brilliant contours of her profile.

Seven years. She had wasted seven long years carrying that arrogant Middleton bastard, blind to the fact that her intellect towered over everyone in this sector.

Seven years of reading every line she had been forced to publish under another man's name, in another man's repository, for another man's valuation.

My left hand rested in my trouser pocket, my thumb absently rubbing against the platinum cufflink at my wrist.

My chief assistant, Cody, stepped silently to my side and leaned in.

"Boss," Cody whispered. "The courier has completed delivery at Apex Dynamics. The reception desk signed for it—Colin, the executive assistant. Middleton never touched it."

A cold, dismissive smirk pulled at my lips, my polar cedar scent sharpening with unhidden contempt.

"Keep the surveillance active," I murmured, my eyes never leaving Kayden's focused figure. "I want him to watch every inch of ground crumble beneath his feet."

That's everything available right now.
