Chapter 3
3.
Seraphina’s attitude toward me had always been lukewarm, but she wasn't always this cruel.
When we first started out, she made me handmade gifts and planned road trips.
On our tenth anniversary, she told me, “I want to spend forever with you. Please don't ever leave me.”
I held onto those words for a long, long time.
That’s why I forgave her every time she snapped at me or cheated after her accident.
I used those memories as a shield.
“I won't make it again.”
My voice was colder than she’d ever heard it.
For years, I had suppressed my own emotions just to help her through her depression.
Her pupils narrowed slightly.
“Fine. Also, I’m not going to see the sunrise tomorrow.”
“We’re in our thirties, Silas. We aren't kids anymore. Stop trying to be romantic.”
Her words felt like a final blow to my heart.
I had been asking her to watch the sunrise with me for years, and she always had an excuse.
She rejected every request I made.
But she said yes to everything Caleb Ryker wanted.
She went to theme parks with him. She looked at flower fields with him.
She even had candlelit dinners with that man.
I wasn't stupid. I had seen the credit card statements and the photos.
She didn't even try to hide it well. She left trails of her betrayal everywhere.
That's everything available right now.
