Chapter 3

3.

Once I boarded the plane, I sent Garrett a text: “I won’t have time tomorrow. Let’s handle the paperwork after I get back from my trip.”

I closed my eyes, letting my thoughts drift back to my original world.

I saw Sophie and Jack sitting in the living room, building Lego sets and smiling up at me.

My twins were always so well-behaved, sleeping through the night since they were five months old.

Ever since preschool, they could dress and brush their teeth on their own, dedicating an hour to reading and an hour to outdoor play every day.

In contrast, Maisie was five years old and could not even pull up her own pants without help, standing there like a helpless doll.

The System’s sudden alert pulled me out of my memories.

A harsh robotic voice chimed: “Warning! Target’s satisfaction score has dropped to twenty percent! Please initiate repair immediately! Please initiate repair immediately!”

I paused in surprise and questioned the System.

“The system already ruled that my mission is complete. Does his satisfaction level still affect me?”

The alarm blared louder.

“It will not stop you from returning home, but the male lead’s fortune will be drained, destroying his health and business, potentially causing sudden death.”

I let out a long breath.

His life or death had nothing to do with me anymore, so why should I bother kissing his feet?

Just as I decided to ignore the System’s plea, another loud beep echoed in my mind.

“Host, a bug has been detected! You must return to perform an emergency repair on your action values! If his satisfaction score is below eighty percent when the portal opens, you will be trapped here permanently!”

My face turned pale.

There were only seven days left; I could not let my efforts go to waste now.

As soon as the flight landed, I immediately booked the next flight straight back.
