Chapter 1
I used to live a simple life, running a deli and raising my little girl.
Then, one day, my daughter was snatched away.
I thought it was the man who had betrayed me years ago.
I took off my apron and headed to the storage room.
I pulled out my dusty, long-forgotten gear.
I would never let anyone who touched my daughter get away with it.
But what I didn’t expect was that the real mastermind behind her abduction was actually her own biological father. 1.
I stood in the surveillance room of the preschool, watching my daughter play on the playground until a group of men in black suddenly swarmed in. They grabbed her, threw a sack over her, and dragged her away.
Those men were rough. They ripped out her hair ties, and when they tossed the bag over their shoulders, they even slammed her against the iron fence.
Damn them. My daughter, the girl I pampered like a princess, treated like that!
The leader of the group cast a defiant look at the security camera before leaving. I knew he did it on purpose. Even though his face was covered, I recognized him instantly―it was Vance, a former member of our unit.
“We’ve already reported it to the police, and the officer is pulling up the footage now. Just head home, Mrs. Daisy’s mom, and wait for updates,” the preschool director said, trying to soothe me.
If I waited for the police to finish their review, would Daisy survive? She had been frail since birth, and I’d spent every cent I’d ever earned on her medical bills. Could she handle this?
Besides, the police were no match for Vance. I knew exactly what he was capable of.
“No, I can’t wait. I’m going to save her myself.”
The director looked horrified.
“They have numbers, they have weapons. You’re just a single woman, how could you possibly fight them? You’re just walking into your own death!”
“Director, you said one thing wrong.”
I patted her trembling shoulder to calm her down.
“They may have numbers, but I am no helpless woman. As for who lives and who dies, that remains to be seen.”
I grabbed the pink hair tie Daisy had left behind, wrapped it around my wrist, and walked out of the preschool.
