Chapter 3 Coincidence
This particular pair of earrings was a gift from Ivan. He had them custom-made for her using his very first salary. They looked like a pair of sapphire snowflakes, and his name was engraved on the back.
Albeit reluctant, Sheila took off the remaining earring and carefully tucked it away in a box.
She didn't want others to find out that she had lost her earring.
A few days later, Sheila went out of her room, only to find a well-dressed Winnie and her parents, Miranda Newell and Enoch Newell.
Enoch waved at Sheila with a smile. "I was just about to send someone to tell you! The Lamont family sent us an invitation. They're asking us to meet them at a hotel to discuss the engagement date. Would you like to come with us?"
Winnie, who was standing behind Enoch, shot Sheila a meaningful look.
Seeing this, Sheila smiled at Enoch and shook her head. "Thanks, Dad, but I'm not feeling well. I'll sit this one out."
"Oh, alright. You should get some rest."
Enoch didn't insist. He just patted Sheila on the head and then left with Winnie and Miranda.
When they were gone, Sheila called her agent, Saul Larson.
Although Winnie had paid for Ivan's medical bills for the first stage of treatment, Sheila would have to pay for the rest. Since the other members of the Newell family weren't at home, she seized this opportunity to find some work.
"Saul, do you have anything for me?" Sheila bit her lower lip anxiously.
"There are a few films being shot right now, but I haven't found a suitable job for you," Saul said slowly. He knew Sheila's situation. After a slight pause, he said with some hesitation, "But there's this one job at a hotel that you might be interested in. They're looking for a receptionist, and the pay is good. Do you want to try your luck there?"
Sheila nodded without hesitation. "Yes. Please send me the details."
"Okay, I'll text you the address. You can go there directly." After hanging up, Saul sent her the address.
Looking at the hotel name on her phone screen, Sheila suddenly had an ominous premonition.
It was the Court Hotel—one of the top hotels in Soulas!
Could this be the very hotel where the Lamont family was meeting the Newell family? Sheila gulped nervously.
But she tried comforting herself by reasoning that there were countless hotels in Soulas. Besides, Saul was already in talks with the hotel staff. After hesitating for a while, Sheila bit the bullet and decided to rush to the hotel.
When Sheila arrived, she was taken to the locker room to change into a uniform. Because she was good-looking, the manager arranged for her to receive the customers at the door.
As soon as she was stationed at the door, a black Bentley pulled to a stop in front of the hotel.
Seeing this, Sheila immediately bowed to welcome the client.
When the car door opened, a pair of well-made and expensive leather shoes came into Sheila's view. She raised her head with a smile and was about to greet the guest when she met a pair of dark blue eyes. Instantly, the smile at the corners of Sheila's mouth froze.
Damn it! It was him!
Memories of that night resurfaced in her mind—the sound of the man panting, the picture of their bodies intertwined, and the scent of alcohol...
Traumatized, she began to tremble uncontrollably.
Sheila forced herself to calm down. She lowered her head and stammered, "W-welcome to the Court Hotel, sir."
Gerald frowned and looked at the bowed woman in front of him. "Winnie? What're you doing here? And why are you in uniform?"
"I... I'm sorry, sir. You've mistaken me for someone else..." Fearing that he would recognize her, Sheila lowered her head again and averted her gaze quickly.
But Gerald approached her, looking at her curiously.
He had to admit that although this woman looked very much like Winnie, she was a bit prettier. If he hadn't known that Winnie was from a well-off family, he would've wondered if she was playing some sort of prank on him.
But it seemed that the second this woman saw him, she was panic-stricken. This made Gerald feel strange. Frowning slightly, he ordered, "Raise your head."
He wanted to see if she really was Winnie's doppelganger.
